THE EDITOR,
In a recent letter to this
newspaper, George Underwood
expressed his disappointment at
what he sees as an attempt by the
federal government to substantially
change the mandate of the Canadian
Wheat Board without first having a
producer vote on the matter.
Mr. Underwood seems to have
forgotten that the Ontario Egg
Producers Marketing Board was
legislated into existence in the
1970s, entirely without any
producer vote at all.
Therefore, if one farm marketing
agency can be legislated into
existence without any producer
vote, it is only fair that another
can be effectively legislated
out of existence in exactly the
same way.
Stephen Thompson,
Clinton.
THE EDITOR,
The North Huron Community
Food Share is delighted that the
Soundsation chorus is once again
putting on a concert to raise funds
for the local food banks in
Wingham. Last year they performed
at the Presbyterian Church in
Wingham to a capacity and
appreciative audience.
This year they will present a
“Soundsation Christmas Concert” at
the Wingham United Church on
Saturday, Nov. 26 at 1:59 p.m. (yep,
that’s the right time). We hope to
once again fill the church with the
proceeds going to the North Huron
Community Food Share as well as
the Salvation Army Food Bank.
Having an excellent chorus like this
perform Christmas music – what a
way to kick-start your Christmas
spirit. Tickets are only $10 and are
available at MicroAge Basics,
The Gift Chest, the Salvation
Army Thrift Store and at the
door.
Don’t forget that earlier in the day
at 11 a.m. is the yearly Wingham
Santa Claus parade. We would like
to remind everyone that the
Wingham Lions Club will be
walking the parade route gathering
non-perishable food items for the
North Huron Food Share. Wrap up
the little ones, bring a food item and
come and enjoy the parade. The
North Huron Community Food
Share is also planning on having a
float in the parade.
We have been delighted these past
few days with the donations that
have come in from the area schools
in response to their “Howl for
Hunger” food drives over the
Halloween weekend. We have also
been very fortunate to have had a
large supply of fresh vegetables
coming in to the Food Share for the
last few weeks from the local
Mennonite community. Thank you
for your ongoing support of the
North Huron Community Food
Share – we couldn’t possibly meet
our obligations to our clients
without the fantastic support of
Wingham and the surrounding area.
Remember – hunger knows no age
limit!
Thank you very much.
Gord Kaster, Chairman
North Huron Community Food
Share.
What a job!

Thompson sworn infor first MPP termOn Nov. 4, Lisa Thompson swore
an Oath of Allegiance at Queen’s
Park, officially marking her first
term as Huron-Bruce MPP.
“I am looking forward to serving
families in Huron-Bruce,” said
Thompson. “I am proud to be a part
of a 37-member Progressive
Conservative caucus that will hold
the McGuinty Liberals’ feet to the
fire in this minority government
situation.”
Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak
announced that Thompson would
serve as the PC Deputy Critic to the
Ministry of Energy, focusing on the
Green Energy Act. Thompson will
focus on taking the McGuinty
Liberals to task on their
skyrocketing hydro rates, and
ignoring rural Ontario in the
placement of industrial wind
turbines.
Thompson intends to move
quickly when the Ontario
Legislature resumes on Nov. 21. The
closure of the Walkerton jail is a top
priority for her. The closure of rural
schools and disaster relief for the
Town of Goderich and Municipality
of Central Huron is also on her list
of issues that must be addressed, in
addition to pressing for a
moratorium on alternative wind
development until third party health
studies and environmental impact
studies have been completed.
“My first action in the Legislative
Assembly has been to submit
Freedom of Information requests
asking for the cost-benefit analysis
documents that the Ministry of
Community Safety and Correctional
Services used to order the Walkerton
jail for closure,” said Thompson.
“This community deserves to know
exactly why the Walkerton jail was
ordered for closure.”
Hudak has said that the
Conservatives will focus on job
creation and economic stability
when the Legislative session begins
on Nov. 21. Hudak has already
struck a Job Creation Taskforce to
focus on new initiatives to once
again make Ontario the economic
leader in Canada.
“During the last economic
recession, Ontario lost more jobs
than every other province and
territory combined,” said
Thompson. “Creating and sustaining
good paying jobs for families in both
rural and urban Ontario is the first
step to ensuring provincial
economic stability.”Food Share to hold its
