The game was part of the high school’s annual feeder school tournament that gives elementary school athletes a chance to see what it’s like to play at the school’s gym. (Conrad Kuiper photo) CHSS Junior volleyball team welcomes prospectsRecently, the Central HuronSecondary School Junior Boysvolleyball team hosted anotherElementary School Invitational tournament in the school’s large gym at the beginning of the month. This time it was the boys from Blyth and Clinton Public Schools that came for a friendly round-robin tournament. Nine games, three teams, countless serves, sets, digs, spikes, prizes and two-and-a-half hours later the 2011 Invitational was over for another year. Although no one beat the Central Huron Juniors, some of the elementary players proved that they are already ready for the next level, and coaches hope they will try outfor the Central Huron team inSeptember when they come to Central Huron to start Grade 9. Once again the 2011 Junior Boys Volleyball team would like to thank Mr. Kuiper, Lexi Cook, Elanna Wicks and Kelsey Cameron for taking all the pictures and the student council for supplying some prizes. Mr. Taylor would like to thank the Junior Boys Volleyball team for being referees, scorekeepers, linesmen and positive ambassadors for Central Huron Secondary School. Bantam Girls shutout Shuffling for position The Blyth PeeWee broomball team took to the ice over the weekend as part of a tournament held in Blyth and Brussels last weekend. The Blyth PeeWee team, which went on to win the tournament, was handed a loss here on Saturday by Mildmay. It was the team’s only loss in the tournament by a score of 1-0. (Vicky Bremner photo) The Bantam girls suffered their first loss of the season on Nov. 9 as the visiting Mitchell Meteors earned a 2-0 shutout at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. While there were plenty of opportunities generated by both teams, Mitchell was the only team able to capitalize. The girls also played against the Upper Maitland Mustangs on Nov. 15 and the Kincardine Kinucks on Nov. 16 but scores were unavailable at press time. The Bantam Girls are still undefeated in regular season play and are on the road next against Tiverton. The puck drops at 8 p.m. on Nov. 22.
