Morrison Dam Conservation area in
Exeter Oct. 27. F.E. Madill had 14
runners qualify for the meet. Twelve
of the 14 runners had better race
times than the previous week at the
Huron Perth Championships at the
same site. There were nine ‘personalbest’ performances, five finishes inthe top 20 and two top team finishes (first and sixth) at the
competition.
The Junior Girls team (Marion
Studhalter, Tristin Cook, Nicole
Jacobs and Holly Howson) had their
best race of the season to win sixth
place overall.
The Senior Girls were focused andready for their race later in the day. When the starting gun went off theytook up the challenge in what was to
be a hotly contested race against
some top opponents, St. Thomas
Aquinas of London and Huron Park
from Woodstock. Only the top two
teams in each division qualify for
Ontario Federation of School
Athletic Associations (OFSAA) soemotions were high. The MadillSenior Girls ran strongly winningfirst place and defeating the nearest

Bird, Erin Yungblut, Rachael Nivins,
Michele Studhalter and Kaitin
Bloemberg) now set their sites on

the WOSSAA Championship.
Bantam Reps wrangle five of six points last week
Last week was a good week for the
Blyth Brussels Bantam Rep team as
they brought home five out of six
potential points.
The boys were feeling pretty good
going into Mildmay on Sunday, Oct.
30, but a hard-skating squad
surprised the short-handed Bantam
team and fought them to a 1-1 tie.
Wyatt Ducharme was missing due
to a hitting from behind penalty in
Shallow Lake which left the team
with only 10 skaters.
Mildmay got out to the 1-0 lead at
9:41 of the second on a power play
and held that lead into the third
period. Pennington tied it up on an
individual effort two minutes into
the third. Both teams traded chances
in the rest of the third with both
Carey and the Mildmay goalie
playing strong games. Even though
they were outworked and outskated
in the game, they still were able to
hold onto the tie.
Their most recent win came on
Thursday, Oct. 27 in Shallow Lake
as a result of a lopsided affair
ending 11-0 for the Blyth Brussels
team.
Goals were scored by Dustin
Pennington (6), Quintin Sjaarda (2),
Arden Coultes, Trent Michie and
Hayden TenPas, one each. Assists
went to Ducharme (2), Coultes (2),
Sjaarda (3), Pennington (2), Michie,
Jarod Logan, TenPas and Reece
McArter with 1 each. The shutout
was earned by Dalton Carey.
The first win of the week was over
Wiarton by the score of 6-3 on
Sunday, Oct. 23 in Blyth.
Big goals were scored by
Ducharme (3), TenPas, Sjaarda and
Coultes. Assists were earned by
Jordan Hubbard (2), Pennington (2),
McArter, Michie and Sjaarda with
one each.
The match was a hard-fought
effort from everyone and a solid win
for Matt McNichol in goal.
These two wins, plus the Bantam
team’s season-opener 3-0 shutout
win against Hanover, brings them to
an undefeated 3-0-1.
The Bantams again took to the ice
against Hanover at the Brussels,
Morris and Grey Community Centre
(BMGCC) on Nov. 2.
A final score was unavailable as of
press time.
The Blyth Brussels PeeWee AE
team’s quickness proved to be too
much as the boys snuffed the
Cyclones from Listowel on Oct. 28.
Jarron Thompson stood steadfast
between the pipes for the PeeWees
keeping the game scoreless through
the first period despite the
ample opportunities the boys
generated but couldn’t seem to
capitalize on.
The second period was much the
same until, with just over a minute
remaining, Jared Shearer bulged the
twine on a sweet pass from Nolan
Johnston to make it 1-0 going into
the break.
The boys would come out flying
to start the third with Carson
Richmond getting a shot on net and
Avery McArter potting the rebound
to go up 2-0.
It only took Listowel 14 seconds
on their power play to bring the
score within one at 10:31 in the
third. Strong defence kept the
Cyclones at bay until McArter
nabbed his second at 2:51 remaining
in the game, picking up a rebound
from a boomer of a shot from
defenceman Josh Gibbons. Blyth
Brussels would hang on and skate
away with a 3-1 win.
This win brought the team to a
season record of 2-2.
The PeeWee team also took on the
Elma Logan on Wednesday, Nov 2
at the Blyth and District Community
Centre, however a final score was
unavailable at press time.
Cyclones all bluster,
PeeWee AE wins 2-2
The Blyth Brussels Midget Rep
team celebrated three wins last
week.
The team won two over the
weekend with a 2-1 win over Zurich
thanks to two goals by Adam
Cousins on Oct. 23 and a 3-2 win
over Saugeen Shores with two goals
being scored by McLean and Jeremy
Ross adding one to take down
Milverton 10-1 on Oct. 24 in their
Blyth home-opener.
Scoring for Blyth Brussels against
Milverton were Jeremy Ross and
Captain Shea McLean with
three goals each and Brody Ten
Pas and Matt VanWyk with two each.
The three wins were a huge turn-
around from their Brussels home-
opener in which the Minto Mad
Dogs beat them on home ice at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre 5-1.
The Midgets are now 5-2 and in
the middle of a three-game winning
streak.
They play next on Nov. 5 at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre at 5 p.m.
BBMHA Midget Reps win three
Lightning beat Aces,
shutout Sarnia Sting
Stephanie Sluys picked up her
third consecutive shutout and
Captain, Sara Gossell had a pair of
goals as the Saugeen Maitland
Lightning Midget AA had a pair of
wins last weekend.
On Saturday, the host Lightning
edged the Sarnia Sting 3-0
with Sluys stopping all 18 Sting
shots.
On Sunday, Gossell scored two
goals to help Saugeen to a 5-1 win
over the Stratford Aces.
Also scoring goals on the
weekend were Hannah Davidson
(two), Laura Irwin, Kailyn Soers,
Stacie Vink and Dollee Meigs.
Assists were awarded to Lindsay
Dales (three), Georgia Ottewell
(two), Meigs (two), Brittany
Butcher, Kelly Garrow, Harley
Westman and Davidson.
The Blyth Brussels Atom Local
League team hosted Monkton on
Saturday, Oct. 29 in a fast-paced
game but neither could claim a win
with the game finishing as a 2-2 tie.
With both teams hungry for the
puck the scoreboard was shy of
numbers in the first period. Coming
out in the second period Connor
Brooks put one past the goalie to
take the lead, but shortly after
Monkton tied the game.
With only minutes left in the third
period, Brooks pushed another one
past the goalie with the help of
Devin Bridge. Monkton got another
chance and tied it up and the game
remained that way.
Keeping Blyth Brussels on their
toes and working hard between the
pipes was Joe Jacklin.
The tie brought the Atom LL team
to a 1-1-1 season record.
Their next game is Saturday, Nov.
5 in Blyth versus the Mitchell
Meteors.
