graduating class.
Local students recognized include:
• Andrew Watson who received
the Proficiency Award for
Photography by having the highest
standing in the course above 85 per
cent, the Proficiency award for
Calculus and Vectors, the
Proficiency Award for Art, the
Governor General Award for the
highest standing in the graduating
class, the Madill Student
Trustee/Senator award given to a
Student Council member who was
the student representative for Madillon the Avon Maitland DistrictSchool Board (AMDSB) for 2009-2010 and the Menzies Endowment
Fund Award given to applicants who
are graduates of Brussels Public
School and have the highest
averages in 11 senior courses that
meet diploma and post secondary
admission requirements.
• Zachary Watson who was
presented the Proficiency Award for
Mathematics for College
Technology, the Proficiency Award
for Physics and was named an
Ontario Scholar for receiving a first
class average in six 4U, 4M, 4C, 4E
or 4O courses.
• Alex Raynard who received theProficiency Award for ExerciseScience and was named an OntarioScholar.
• Loretta Thompson who was
named an Ontario Scholar.
• Laura Peach who was given the
“Above and Beyond the Call of
Duty” Award given to a graduating
student who has made a significant
contribution to the school during
their schooling, the Huron County
Award given to a graduating student
who resides in Huron County and is
proceeding to further education in an
agricultural or related field, was
named an Ontario Scholar and was
awarded a Big ‘M’ which is given to
recipients who have earned three
intermediate awards for academics,
athletics and activities.
• Tyler Stevenson who was named
an Ontario Scholar and was given
the Proficiency Award for Calculus
and Vectors.
• Brandon Hakkers who received
the Brussels Community
Development Trust Scholarship
• Ellen Cook who received the
Michelle Andrew Memorial
Scholarship given to the top Track
and Field athletes who have been
accepted at a college or university
and was also named an Ontario
Scholar.
• Morgan Deitner who was named
an Ontario Scholar.
• Ryan Van Camp who received
the Garniss Family Award which is
given to a resident of the Belgrave
area who has exhibited good school
citizenship and has contributed
positively to the community through
involvement in community activities
and who was named an Ontario
Scholar.
• Matthew Cottrill who received
the Huron County Women’s Institute
Education Award given to a full-time
resident of Huron County who is
furthering their education with a
preference given to students
studying agricultural or life skills
• Kasey King who received the
Huron East Chamber of CommerceAward given to a graduating studentfrom Huron East who has shownleadership in the school and the
larger community and is continuing
their education in the area of
business at college or university and
who was also named an Ontario
Scholar.
• Reba Jefferson who was given
the Huron Perth Real Estate BoardAward, was awarded a QueenElizabeth Aiming for the TopScholarship in recognition of
outstanding academic achievement
to students proceeding to an Ontario
college or university and who was
named an Ontario Scholar.
• Melissa Leishman who was

Well done
Matt Cardiff received the Morris Ward Graduate Award at
Friday night’s commencement ceremony at F.E. Madill
Secondary School. The award is given to a student from the
Morris Ward of Morris-Turnberry who has contributed
positively to his school and community. Both recipients of
the Menzies Endowment Fund Award, awarded to
graduates of Brussels Public School who have the highest
average in 11 senior courses that meet diploma and post-
secondary admission requirements, were unable to attend
commencement in Wingham on Friday night. Emily Kerkhof

Congrats
Brandon Hakkers received the Brussels Community
Development Trust Scholarship at Friday night’s
commencement ceremony at F.E. Madill Secondary
School. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate of
Brussels Public School who exhibited good citizenship
while a student at Madill and has proceeded to further
education in the technical field, either as an apprentice or at
