Legion presented with book about local servicemanContinued from page 2introduced Comrade Paul Machan, amember of Clinton Branch. He and13 members of the Machan familywere present for a special
dedication. A book about Warrant
Officer Class 1 Willis Machan was
presented along with pictures of
W.O. Machan to the Branch. The
cenotaph bears the name of the late
Willis Machan, who died Dec. 13,
1943 at the age of 21.
Willis was the son of Stanley and
Ivah Machan of Brussels. He had
three sisters, Glenna, Lois and Jean,
whom some folks around Brussels
and the Cranbrook area will
remember. They were present at the
Legion for the presentation. Paul
Machan and John Weber are
nephews of W.O. Willis Machan.
When John Weber was visiting his
mother, Glenna, he came across the
box of letters from Willis. He felt
they were so interesting that they
should be put together in a book and
published. The letters were from the
time he enlisted and was in training
until he was sent to serve in the
Azores and his untimely death. Mr.
Machan made the presentation and
then introduced John Weber, whospoke about the book.Dinner followed a short break inthe presentations. The openingceremony was conducted by Deputy
Zone Commander Larry Bailey.

A delicious meal was served by
the Parent Support Committee of the
Brussels Cadet Corp 2967. Four
senior Cadets served the tea and
coffee.
District Commander Stew Taylor
presented President Deb with a
congratulatory certificate from
Provincial Command recognizing
the 80th anniversary of the Branch.
Remarks were given by the
Commanders and congratulations
expressed to all. Comrade John
Lowe thanked all for their part in
making the day successful.
Decorating committee included
Comrade Nanci Ducharme, Rossand Marg Bennett and Agnes TenPas.The Friday night supper had agreat crowd of over 40 enjoy the
ham and scalloped potatoes. This
week is roast beef.
The Thursday night dart league
starts this week, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to come out
and play. The blind draw is made up
after everyone arrives. It only costs a
buck to play and have a good time.
There were 12 Comrades, Ross
and Marg Bennett, Glenn and Jean
Bridge, Charles and Grace Procter,
George and Maxine Adams, Cecil
Moore and Beryl McGowan, Forrest
Whittard and Olave Little, attended
the Veterans Dinner in Lucknow on
Sunday afternoon. they enjoyed an
afternoon of entertainment and a
delicious dinnerGood representation
Ross Bennett was awarded with his 65-year service pin
from the Brussels Legion on Saturday night at its 80th
anniversary. Bennett, who joined the Legion in 1946, was
presented his pin by Legion President Deb Cann, left, and
