Community volunteers Dustin and Christian Andrews completed the new paint job on the existing swing set at the park last weekend. The boys can add the time spent on the swing set refresh to their community hours required for school. The new colour of the swing set is meant to complement the colours of the new playground equipment. Many will have taken notice that the old equipment has now been completely removed and the digging has begun for the base of the new equipment. The municipality of Central Huron will be looking after the installation of the equipment, along with Play Power, the equipment distributor. It won’t be long now – the Playground Committee is excited to see the finished product, as are the children that reside in the village. After tallying the final figures, just over $600 was raised for the Goderich and Area Disaster Relief Fund during Road Hockey Day at Auburn earlier this month. By Madelaine Higgins The week of October 17 to 21 at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School brought several extra- curricular events and educational excursions. On Monday, Oct. 17, the field hockey team hosted a tournament at the school where they defeated both St. Marys and Stratford Northwestern. On Thursday, Oct. 20, both the junior and senior boys volleyball teams headed to Northwestern for games and the cross country team departed for the annual Huron Perth meet in Exeter. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the students who take part in the Specialist High Skills Major programs at St. Anne’s underwent GPS training at St. Michael's in Stratford. The school has three of these programs, entitled Arts and Culture, Energy, and Agriculture which offer students a chance to take a co-operative education program in the location of their choosing and also the opportunity to complete several extra certifications and specialized events and trips. Additionally, on Wednesday, Oct. 19, classes from the English department travelled to Toronto to attend a theatre production and to enhance their interactions and team- building skills. Last week, after the annual “Walk for Wellness” event at the school, students and staff of St. Anne's were able to raise over $15,500 in pledges which will be donated to both the St. Anne’s fitness room and St. Vincent de Paul in Goderich. Anyone interested in attending Grade 9 at St. Anne’s next year is invited to the school’s annual open house on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 6:45 p.m. This will be a night for parents and students to learn all about St. Anne’s and the programs that we offer.
