MARKS, Robert (BOB), Nov. 6,
2010.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be,
So he closed His arms around you,
And whispered, “Come to Me.”
You didn’t deserve what you went
through,
So He gave you rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
We could not wish you back,
To suffer again.
– Always loved and not forgotten
by Agnes and children and
grandchildren. 42-1p

The Ontario Provincial Police
were busy in Huron-Perth on
Tuesday, Oct. 18 as three males
were arrested for gasoline theft.
The initial theft took place in
Mitchell and resulted in two local
schools being put into a “soft”
lockdown on the Tuesday morning
under which no one was allowed
to enter or leave the schools as well
as Highway 8 and portions of
Brussels Line being closed. The
latter closure happened later in the
day.
A report from the OPP indicates
that, at 6 a.m., officers were
dispatched to the Mitchell area after
a male driving a Dodge pickup truck
pumped fuel at the Petro Canada
station in Mitchell and left without
paying.
The officers that were patrolling
Mitchell saw the vehicle with three
suspects in it parked on the side of
Highway 8 in the town and arrested
one of the occupants while the other
two escaped on foot.
The suspects were not considered
armed however some witness
accounts state that police officers
armed with rifles were on scene
where one of the arrests was
made.
The search for the suspects spilled
over into Huron County near
Brussels where, on Oct. 18, several
OPP cruisers could be seen south of
the village on Brussels line.
The officer arrested one of the
three males in a corn field adjacent
to the road.
The lockdown at the schools was
lifted a few hours after it was
implemented when the arrests were
made.
Turbine project faces delays
Area high school locked down
after thieves flee gas station
Huron East Council had an
announcement that was music to the
ears of the members of Huron East
Against Turbines (HEAT) at its Oct.
18 meeting.
Mayor Bernie MacLellan
announced to HEAT co-founder
Rob Tetu that St. Columban Energy
Limited had written to the Ministry
of the Environment asking for an
extension on their wind project
planned for McKillop. The Ministry
granted the extension, for the
requested length of time, which was
until September of 2012.
Tetu, who was at the meeting
giving his monthly report on the
Inter-Municipal Wind Turbine
Working Group, was pleased with
the news.
MacLellan stated that an
arrangement between the company
and Ontario Hydro had fallen
through and Ontario Hydro would
no longer be building the
transmission lines for the power that
is to be produced by the project.
MacLellan said the onus would now
fall on St. Columban Energy
Limited to build the hydro lines.
“They’ll have to build the lines
themselves,” MacLellan said, “so
they’ll need to extra time to get their
ducks in a row.”
Surprised by the announcement,
Tetu had little to say before he
brought the letter back to the other
members of HEAT, saying just
“that’s excellent news.”
Tetu then assumed there would be
additional public meetings
associated with the project, a
recommendation that he said came
from now-departed Minister of the
Environment John Wilkinson.
Councillor Bill Siemon said the
announcement changed the whole
face of the project and its feasibility.
“Forty-five kilometres of
transmission wire,” he said, “that’s
going to get pretty darn expensive.”
