Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending Oct.
21 were 3,439 cattle, 621 lambs and
goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold on a very strong active
trade. Choice steers and heifers sold
$110 to $114 with sales to $120.25.
Second cut sold $105 to $109. Cows
sold steady. On Thursday veal sold
on a good active trade with beef veal
trading steady and holstein veal $5
easier. Lambs, sheep and goats all
sold $10 to $20 higher. On Friday
calves and yearlings sold fully
steady.
There were 108 steers on offer.

Fed steers, heifers sell on strong trade
Chris Palmer can ride a bicycle. That
may not seem like a big
achievement for most grown men
but it’s the accomplishment of one
more mini-goal on the road back
from his near-death experience in a
2008 farm accident.
Palmer told the story of his
accident and long recovery to a
hushed full house audience at the
annual meeting of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture, October
20 in Seaforth.
In a spring 2011 interview with
The Citizen Palmer had given riding
a bicycle with his wife as his goal
for this summer. He accomplished it
by adapting the bicycle pedal to
accommodate his prosthetic leg.
Achieving mini-goals is an
important part of his 41-month
recovery, he told the audience. His
