(Shawn Loughlin photo) Wedding, birthcelebrated in Walton The day did not begin too bright, but at 2:50 p.m., the sun broke through the clouds to shine upon the wedding of Nick Campbell and Danielle Good. Nick is the son of Laurie and Deb Campbell and Danielle is from Wingham. The wedding was held at the Campbell farm. The bride and her bridesmaids arrived by wagon, drawn by a team of black percheron horses driven by the two fathers. The lovely ladies in black dresses with avocado shawls met the handsome groom and groomsmen, also in avocado green accessories, for the ceremony. A surprise gift and guest for the wedding was a miniature donkey for Nick, a gift from his brothers. Guests were ushered by brothers, Cory, Tyler and Jordan. Travelling home from the west to be part of the wedding party was Brent Wheeler, joining Scott Armstrong and Brandon Blake. Lovely young ladies attending the bride were Lacey McArter and Emily Elston. Following the wedding, they enjoyed a social time in the tent, before heading to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre for the dinner and reception. Proud grandparents are Jack and Liz Coultes and Betty Campbell. The newlyweds will be living on Cardiff Road and will enjoy a belated honeymoon this winter. Congratulations to Chris and Judy Lee on the birth of a granddaughter. Proud parents are Brett and Mel and big brother Kaden is excited they picked the name, Harper, one he chose for his little sister. Harper is the first Lee girl to be born in almost 60 years for the family and after 10 Lee males, she will indeed be special. Congratulations to all. Yes, we have had enough rain for a while and the farmers would be happy if it would quit. They had one good day they could work on some beans and some corn, but they are being few and far between right now. Our condolences to Helen Williamson on the loss of her sister- in-law Gertie Elliott. Our condolences to the Somerville children on the loss of their mother, Debbie Somerville. Our sympathies are expressed to Jeremy, Jamie and Alysha and to the McPherson and Somerville families. Brussels again was hit by vandals last week, this time breaking windows in many vehicles around town. On Oct. 18 they were busy causing problems for many residents around the downtown core. Tuesday afternoon the police had been very busy on Brussels Line looking for a suspect, no less than nine cruisers were on the road or in the area just south of Brussels. News reports say they arrested a suspect, so we can be sure it wasn’t him causing the trouble in town that night. A wonderful crowd attended the open house at Huronlea to celebrate the 80th birthday of Lois McCall. Her children, Debbie, Don, Julie and Vicki and their families were all in attendance for the afternoon. Welcome to Isabel Workman who is now a resident at Huronlea. Doreen Hackwell is at Seaforth Manor and appreciates visitors. Duff’s United Church had the sacrament of baptism on Sunday. Welcomed into the church family was Bridget Ann McCallum, daughter of Chad and Crystal McCallum. Members of the McCallum families and the Semple families attended and then had lunch at the home of Chad and Crystal in Brussels. Duff’s annual turkey supper is next week and everyone’s help is needed. Set up at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre is Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. It would be nice to have a few men to help move the tables. Please come out if you can. Tuesday is a prep day at the church, both morning and afternoon and ladies, the more help eases the burden for the few. Wednesday is the big day and we hope everyone can help. High school students needing their volunteer hours are welcome to come and help. Contact Gloria Wilbee or Jo-Ann McDonald. Celebrating birthdays this past week were Bryan Kelson, Ron McCallum, Brett Lee, Lois McCall, Janice McCallum MacGillvary, Michael Parr, Doug Bauer, Wayne Todd, Andrew Grothius, Teresa Baan, Tanner Leslie, Dan Taylor, Murray Dennis and Douglas Wey. Locals drawn west by family weddings and attractions The west has been the draw for a couple of area folks. Isabel Wheeler went to Calgary to attend her niece Ruth Ann’s wedding. Ruth Ann is the daughter of Ross and Esther Smith of Red Deer. The wedding was held at Lougheed House, a beautiful historic home in Calgary. The groom, Neville, wore his military uniform and there was an impressive guard of honour in full navy uniform. Isabel spent time both in Red Deer and in Calgary and was away about eight days. She enjoyed some nice weather and a little rain and a little frost. She reports that she missed seeing the colourful maple trees of home and the bright yellow popular trees and tamaracks are just not as pretty as our maples. Jim and Linda McDonald also spent time in Calgary. They flew from London to Calgary to meet up with son, Andrew. Andrew is living in Edmonton, but travelled to Calgary, along with Darcy McCutcheon, to meet the folks. They had a nice visit and Thanksgiving together. When Andrew and Darcy returned to Edmonton, Jim and Linda continued their trip and went to Las Vegas. They spent time just resting and relaxing, just what the doctor ordered for Jim. They went to see KÀ Cirque du Soleil and report it was fantastic. They enjoyed wonderful weather and hated to come home to the rain.
