On Sept. 6 the monthly meetings
of the Auxiliary to the Clinton
Public Hospital resumed after a
busy summer of members
volunteering at the hospital Day
Surgery Unit, the Gift Shop, Hot
Dog Days, Legends Days and the
Walton Motocross. A moment of
silence was observed in memory of
Dr. Jan Raczycki.
Guest speakers Jeanette Sears and
Kristen Passchier spoke about the
Alzheimer Society’s programs for
support and education. The Ruby
Haddy Award for education in
health-related fields was presented
to St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary
School student Natalie Husnik and
will be presented to a Central Huron
Secondary School graduate.
Huron East Council approved the
quotation from Nicholson Concrete
to pave nearly 115 square metres of
sidewalks in Ethel.
At the Oct. 4 meeting of council,
Public Works Director Barry Mills
recommended Nicholson’s price of
$69 per square metre of concrete for
a total cost of $8,006.
The new sidewalks will run on the
north side of Brandon Road in Ethel
beginning at the Grey Fire
Department’s hall and running
east.
Mills said the sidewalk would run
for over 100 metres east and the
remainder of the sidewalk project
will be presented in the 2012
budget.
Council carried the
recommendation of Mills.
Huron East’s new treasurer Paula
Michiels and Huron East’s north
patrol foreman were also consulted
during the process.
Quotations were also received by
Diamond Concrete at a total cost of
$9,712, John Neutel at a total cost
of $12,145 and Jason Gulutzen
Construction at a total cost of
$22,125.
The Friday night euchre party at
the Cranbrook Hall, hosted by
Helen Cullen, Isabelle Bremner and
Eleanor Stevenson had seven tables
at play.
