Chocolate teaches jealousyUshering worshippers at BlythUnited Church on Sunday, Oct. 2were Arletta Hallahan, David Onn,Laurie Sparling and Lori Brooks.Floyd Herman was music director.
Emily Phillips introduced the guest
speaker, Colin Snyder from
Varna/Goshen United Churches.
Emily drew everyone’s attention
to the announcements printed in the
bulletin. Special attention that the
ladies will be making turkey pies on
Oct. 19. Call Joann MacDonald if
you wish to order.
Another event she drew our
attention to was the fall supper of
roast beef and all the trimmings on
Oct. 29 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets
are $14 for adults and $6 for
children six to 12. Any member of
the stewards have tickets or call Cliff
Snell.
The call to worship, “Where Two
or Three are Gathered Together” was
sung followed by the prayer of
approach and the first hymn, “Give
to Us Laughter”. Emily Philips read
the scripture from Genesis 37: 3-11
followed by the response, “Your
Word is a Lamp for My Feet and a
Light for My Path.”
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time.
Colin had a bag with him and gave
the children each a small chocolate
bar. When everyone had one he then
pulled out a big chocolate bar forhimself. The children said that itwasn’t fair that he got the big one.He traded with one of the childrenand when she opened it, it was
empty. The children were all jealous
of him having the big bar but we
often don’t know what is in the other
bar.
He told the children that this was
like Joseph’s brothers. They were
jealous of him because their father
loved Joseph best. God wants us to
be happy with what we are and not
be jealous of what we don’t have.
The children repeated a prayer and
went down to Sunday School for
their time of fellowship. The choir
sang the anthem, “Beautiful
Dreamer” written by Stephen Foster.
It was published after he died.
Colin’s message to the adults was
“Faith and Family Feuds.” Jacob
loved Joseph more than his other
children. Jacob had a robe of many
colours made for Joseph. The
brothers claimed it was a coat for a
king and they resented Joseph forhaving it. Joseph tells his brothersabout his dreams. That they would

The transforming power of the Spirit!
(J.C. Ryle, “The Lord’s Garden”)
“To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints.” Romans 1:7
Believers are separated from the world by the effectual working of the Holy Spirit. The
Spirit calls them out from the world, and separates them as effectually as if a wall were
built between them and it. He puts in them... new hearts, new minds, new tastes, new
desires, new sorrows, new joys, new wishes, new pleasures, new longings.
He gives them... new eyes, new ears, new affections, new opinions.
He makes them new creatures. They are born again--and with a new birth they begin a
new existence. Mighty indeed is the transforming power of the Spirit!

Student council nominees named
By Courtney Bachert
This week has been great at Blyth
Public School.
Last week nominees were chosen
for the student council. Kathryn C. is
acclaimed as our new Prime
Minister. Student council speeches
were this Monday and the election to
decide who is the treasurer, deputy
prime minister, secretary, social
convenor and the class
representatives was to be held
Tuesday.
We day was amazing! Ten
students from Grade 6-8 went to
Toronto and everyone had an
awesome time learning what we can
do about issues like poverty and how
we can change our attitude from “me
to we.” Different singers were there
like Joe Jonas and Nelly Furtado to
help get students motivated. If you
would like to know more you can go
online to their website at:

This week the Senior
Kindergarten students completed
their month-long unit on the book I
Went Walking by Sue Williams. They
have been looking and studying each
of the words within this pattern book
and arranging them into the correct
order so the book looks and sounds
like it is supposed to. Literacy
centres where they match the animal
with the correct colour word, enact
the story sequence using puppets,
choose the correct magnetic letters
to print key words within the story,
practise printing words within the
story using the correct
formation/pencil grip and assemble
puzzles of animals featured within
the storybook have made up our
Language study.
They graphed the September
weather and found that we had lots
of sunny days. They also have been
reviewing the numbers one to five
and learned a number chant.
Next week they begin their huge
colour unit called “Colour FALL”
where they spend a day celebrating,
exploring, creating and discovering
information about each colour
within the colour wheel.
The Junior Kindergarten students
continued on with their unit on Blyth
Bears. They concentrated on the
letter “B” and the sound it creates
whenever it is present within a word.
They also sorted bears into three
sizes of small, medium and large,
and they concentrated on the story of
Goldilocks and The Three Bears and
re-enacted the story using both fancy
headbands/props that children wear
and puppets. Another thing they did
was categorize bears into pattern
families and made them caves that
matched the patterns on their
overalls.
They sang many bear songs and
Happy birthday to Margaret
Wasson who will celebrate Oct. 8
and Jeffery Walden, Oct. 9.
Happy anniversary to Kim (Craig)
and Mark Hornyak who celebrate
Oct. 10.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
The weatherman is promising us
good weather after all these rainy
days. This would be a good weekend
to go for a drive and take the camera
along as the trees are turning their
bright and beautiful colours.
