THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2011.Group questions Hudak ahead of election THE EDITOR, There is a lot to be learned in this election campaign by what isn’t said in all-candidates meetings. We’d like to hear about policies not people. The American way of bashing people has no place in our sovereign country. Each candidate represents a political party and before you vote we want you to know some policies of Ontario’s Conservatives and Tim Hudak. Hudak has said the Conservatives “shouldn’t give up on trying to financially help families who send their children to private religious schools.” • Hudak admits he “may have” signed a petition calling for an end to abortion funding and in 1995 he wrote Campaign Life Coalition: “I believe it is the government’s role to promote the choice of life in childbearing decisions, to encourage women to carry babies to full term.” • Statistics Canada recently reported the crime rate is the lowest since 1973 and murder rate is lowest since 1996 and yet Hudak has said, “I’m tired of Liberal and NDP politicians who would rather put handcuffs on the police that put criminals behind bars.” • Privatization in Health Care – Hudak clearly stated his openness to private healthcare, saying “You don’t really care at the end of the day who owns the machines.” Private healthcare is about making money for shareholders. Public healthcare puts people first. He pledged to expand privately delivered services. You the public should be aware he’s received substantial financial support from the private health industry – and the CEO of Medcan Health Management, was the chief fundraiser in Hudak’s leadership campaign. If Mr. Hudak truly wanted to help working families he’d be investing in affordable, quality childcare. As retired working people we know the struggle many families go through. We care because our children and grandchildren are going through the tough times right now. Think of your children and grandchildren when you vote. They deserve better, and with Hudak we’d see the Mike Harris Ontario with those destructive, divisive policies. CAW Local 1325, Retired Workers Chapter, Mary Straus, Secretary, RR 3, Walton. THE EDITOR, I have great respect for individuals who put themselves under personal scrutiny by putting their name forward as a candidate in elections. I have, however, some serious concerns regarding the PC’s promises and the costing of those promises. They have stated that they will make two per cent of cuts in services. We all remember the havoc the province was sent into when Mike Harris promised one per cent of cuts. Hospitals, schools and many other sectors were in turmoil. Does the current two per cent of promised cuts mean the havoc and turmoil will be twice as bad? The amount of promised cuts is $6 • Renovations • New Homes • Sales & Installation of Windows & Doors Call Ken 519-887-9857 Brussels, ON 519-526-7634 ~ Dave Werkema ADDITIONS • RENOVATIONS • GENERAL REPAIRS NEW HOMES C&P PORTABLE TOILETS Teeswater 1-800-834-4414 Ph: 519-392-8474 Fax: 519-392-6168 * Regular Units * Deluxe Units - sink / flush * Handwash Stations * Wedding / Special Event Units * Wheelchair/Infant Care Units * Comfort Station Trailer C&P - for people who are out and “going”!
