Normoska club view collections in Auburn
When the Normoska Antique Car

Chamney’s shop in August, Laura
May’s collection of quilts,
depression glass and Miss Cutie Pies
glassware were also admired by
many in the club.Bud and Laura May Chamneyentertained Jane and John Chamneyof Carleton Place while they were in

The Auburn Playground
Committee President Juanita Hamp,
along with her husband Brian Hamp,
Committee Treasurer Gerry
Upthegrove and Auburn
Horticultural Society member Karen Redmond travelled to Wingham on Sept. 6 to attend the North Huron Council
meeting.
Back in January, at the time when
the three municipalities were
considering their budgets, the
committee sent requests for
assistance with funding for the new
playground equipment to each
council. Central Huron stepped up
immediately with a donation of
$5,000. Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh delayed their
contribution until the outcome of the
Trillium Grant was determined.
North Huron sent back a resounding
“no”.Since the Ontario TrilliumFoundation news release in Augustannouncing that the Auburn
Playground Committee has been
granted $25,000, Ashfield-
Colborne-Wawanosh has agreed to
donate $2,000 toward the purchase
of equipment, seating and
maintenance of the existing swing
set.
On Sept. 6, after considering the
correspondence provided by the
committee and despite opposition
from Councillor Brock Vodden,
the North Huron Council finally
agreed to match the donation of
ACW.

appreciation of the stories. They are
also learning about rules and
responsibilities that can be used in
class and all over school.
The first two days of kindergarten
were spent interviewing 18 new
kindergarten students and their
parents. Parents and new
kindergarteners spent time touring
the room, exploring the various work
stations and answering questions
that will assist Ms Thorpe-Hearn as
she gets acquainted with her new
students. Returning Senior
Kindergarten students came on
Thursday and welcomed a new
student Kaydence. Senior students
talked about their summer
adventures and wrote books about
the things they saw as they went
walking through the various summer
destinations.
On Friday, six new Junior
Kindergarten students came to
school for the first time on their own
and learned all about the school’s
mascot, the black bear. The class
went on a hunt through the school
for signs of the bear – and found a
huge bear paw in the gymnasium
and two pictures of big black bears
in the gym and by the office. They
played the bear’s picnic game, made
a black bear mascot, learned a new
poem, listened to many bear stories
and sang a few bear songs.

By Hunter Dale
Hi, my name is Hunter Dale. I
have lived in Blyth for 11 years. I
have played hockey for 11 years for
Blyth. I like sports like hockey,
football, soccer and baseball. I have
attended Blyth Public School since
kindergarten. My favourite singer is
Lil’ Wayne. My favourite song is
“Green and Yellow”. I will be telling
you about junior grades and SERTS
and math teachers. I am excited to be
writing for you.
I interviewed three students from
the Grade 3/4 and 4/5 classes. My
first question was what was your
best thing about summer? Rylee in
Grade 3 said playing with his friends
was the best. Adam in Grade 4 said
four-wheeling in his field and
Kennedy in Grade 3 said camping
was the best. Lucas in Grade 5 said
going to Walton to watch the races.
Sara in Grade 4 said going to
Collingwood. Colin in Grade 5 said
almost flipping a four-wheeler.
My second question is why
did/didn’t you want to come back to
school. Rylee said he wanted to
come back to school because he gets
to play. Adam said yes, he wanted to
come back because he gets to play
with his friends. Kennedy said she
wanted to come back to school
because it is fun. Lucas said he
didn’t want to come back because he
wishes summer was longer so he
could do more. Sara said she wanted
to come back to talk to friends. Colin
said he didn’t want to come back
because he does not think school is
fun.
The Grade 5/6 class is studying
government and holding their own
election, working hard on mental
strategies for adding, subtracting,
multiplying and dividing. That’s
what the juniors are up to.
By Phaedra Scott
Hello, my name is Phaedra Scott
and I will be writing articles in “The
Blyth Bearpaw” to keep you up to
date with our school’s latest
accomplishments and upcoming
events. I’m currently in Grade 8 and
love anything to do with math or
science. I will listen to any song or
read any book and I like to think that
I’m artistic. I’ve been playing the
piano for seven years now and have
recently taken an interest to the
guitar and clarinet. I look forward to
writing in the newspaper and
together I know that we will have a
great year.
The intermediate grades claim that
they had an amazing summer. From
camping to getting new puppies the
Grade 6, 7 and 8 students did it all.
Grade 6 student Jessie said that she
had a blast horseback riding during
the summer, also saying that it was
totally worth the long drive to
Mississauga for a birthday party.
I had also asked this year’s Grade
8 students how they feel about this
being their last year before high
school and Brennan had said, “It’s
weird finally being in Grade 8 after
all these years but, I’m really excited
for high school.”
Tiffany, also of Grade 8, said that
it felt good to finally be at the top
and that she was eager to go to high
school but that she was disappointed
about having to leave her good
friends when they go their separate
ways.
Overall the intermediates had a
great summer and are all looking
forward to another terrific school
year.
