The Ironmen power play was clicking as three of the team’s six goals were scored with the man advantage. “We worked on our power play last week in practice,” Haggitt said. “I hope it keeps clicking.” According to Haggitt, the new players are fitting in and all the players are working well together. “They are a good group of players and everyone is getting along,” he said.Stephenson of Brussels will keepplaying the physical game, but willbe scoring more goals this season. “They know I can score and I know I can score goals,” he said. “I will keep playing the physical game, I will just stay away from the dirty stuff.” He said it was nice to open the season with a win and get the two points. According to Stephenson, everyone thinks the Ironmen are not going to be strong this season. “We’re going to hold our own against the other teams in the league,” he said. The Ironmen are at home on Friday as they host the Hanover Barons at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Ironmen travel to Kincardine for a 7 p.m. contest against the Bulldogs. The Rippers only had nine players, including coach Buck Hamilton who played first base. The Brewers used three pitchers in the game. Blaine Marks started and was relieved by Scott Cox. Scott McDonald hurled the last two innings and collected the win. McDonald paced the offence with a triple and two singles. Kevin Murray contributed a triple. Rapping out single base wins were Cox, Ron Strome, Jamie Wick and Adam Verkley. Player coach Paul Dolmage said they were finally able to pull out the victory. “We struggled at the plate,” he said. “We weren’t hitting the ball well and when we did we weren’t able to capitalize with runs.” The Brewers will play the Rippers or the Sebringville Juniors in their first game of the year-end tournament scheduled for Brussels on Sept. 16-18.
