And some of them have already had a field trip taking in the sights and sounds of the Blyth Steam Show last Friday. I expect they foundit a warm day on the grounds butinteresting just the same.Respect – valuing self, others and our world - is the character attribute receiving emphasis during September in all areas of their school day routines. It is up to the adults in their lives outside of classes to reinforce this attribute. The whole school will be participating in the sixth annual Terry Fox Run the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 23. Ask the young people in your lives if you wish to contribute to this Canadian Cancer Society event. By supporting the children in this endeavour weacknowledge its importance to thewhole community. Their first spiritday is Friday, Sept. 29. Pupils are asked to show their school spirit by dressing in the school colours that day, black and gold. Community members can support the folks of Goderich by dropping off donations at the school this week. Call the school if you need more information about this assistance. Brent Thomas, son of Bob and June, wed Alice Gomes on July 23 at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Toronto. Brent, who came to the village when he was 11, attended Hullett Central Public School and later Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. Currently he works in the area of information security. Alice is an elementary school teacher in Toronto. As is the village custom, we wish to congratulate the young couple and extend to them our best wishes. If you would like to be part of a village gift for them you may leave a monetary donation at the post office. The Londesborough UCW will hold their first meeting of the fall on Monday, Sept. 19 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The focus of this meeting will be on beginning a new season with an uplifted spirit, leaving behind some of the ‘baggage’ that tends to slow everyone down and keeps each of us from being our best. The Londesborough United Church will be serving up its annual pork chop supper at the Londesborough Community Hall on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available from any member of the Board of Stewards for $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6 to 12. Take-out dinners are also available. Sunday School has reconvened for a new year at Londesborough United. All children are welcome to be a part of the activities and learning. There were 13-and-a-half tables of euchre players that evening. Charlie Shaw and John Pollard won first prize with a score of 84 points. The Happy Gang Seniors will have the first of their fall meetings on Wednesday, Sept. 28 beginning with potluck at 12:30 p.m. With a new school year starting, schools across the area, on average, are welcoming fewer students. Hullett Central Public School is the only local school that has increased enrolment, welcoming 162 students to their first day of school last. Hullett started the 2010- 11 school year with 156 students, and the 2009-2010 school year with 153 students. Brussels Public School saw 180 students pass through the doors on its first day of school on Sept. 6, down from last year’s final tally and significantly down from the 200 students the school expected to start last year. In the 2009-10 school year, Brussels Public School housed 220 students. Blyth was down one student from the end of the 2010-11 school year as 155 students entered the school for what is slated to be its final year.
