We find that they are empty bubbles!
(J.C. Ryle)
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of
the Father is not in him. For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the
lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father
but from the world!” 1 John 2:15-16
The possession of the whole world, and all that it contains -- will never make a person
happy. Its pleasures are false and deceptive! Its riches, rank, and honours, have no
power to satisfy the heart! So long as we have not got them -- they glitter, sparkle, and
seem desireable. The moment we have them -- we find that they are empty bubbles,
and cannot make us feel content.
And, worst of all, when we possess this world’s good things to the utmost bound of our
desire -- we cannot keep them!Death comes in and separates us from all our property
forever! Naked we came upon earth, and naked we go forth -- and of all our
possessions, we can carry nothing with us.
Such is the world, which occupies the whole attention of thousands!
Such is the world, for the sake of which millions are every year destroying their souls!
“This world is fading away, along with everything that people crave!” 1 John 2:17

Events in Blyth well attended
Sympathy is extended to Joan and
Lavern Clark and family in the death
of Joan’s father on Aug. 26.
It was a job well done by those
who organized the Huron Pioneer
Thresher and Hobby Association’s
50th Anniversary. The weather was
great. Hundreds of people enjoyed
the 90-minute parade on Saturday.
The Firefighters’ Memorial Service
for 9/11 was also well attended.
There were thousands of people
who came to Blyth this weekend to
see the steam show.
The new ESTC technology
building on County Rd. 25 had its
grand opening this weekend. It was
good to hear that there are many
former residents of Blyth that readour newspaper to get informed ofthe happenings in Blyth andsurrounding areas. It was good tosee friends who we haven’t seen inyears.
Happy birthday to Edgar Daer
who celebrates on Sept. 15; Tricia
Daer of London, Sept. 17; Larry
Badley, Sept. 20.
Happy anniversary to Blair and
Shannon Bieman of Belgrave and
Jeff and Shanann Josling of Blyth
who celebrate Sept. 16.
There was no church service at
Blyth United Church this past
Sunday. Members of the
congregation were encouraged to
attend the Memorial Service for
9/11 at the Emergency Services
Training Centre and the Church
service at the Threshers Shed 3.

Blyth Citizen of the Year
awarded to Kay Hesselwood
Kay Hesselwood has been named
as the Blyth and area Citizen of the
Year for 2011.
After hearing she had been chosen
by area residents as Blyth’s Citzen
of the Year, Kay said she was
honoured by the recognition.
“It’s wonderful,” she said, “but I
don’t think I deserve it.”
Several area residents, however,
did think Kay deserved to be named
Citizen of the Year, thanks in part to
her extensive work throughout the
community, not the least of
which is often feeding the
community.
Upon hearing she had been named
Citizen of the Year, Kay was in the
middle of a full day of baking. She
had also spent the previous day
baking prior to the annual reunion of
the Huron Pioneer Thresher and
Hobby Association.
Nominators praised Kay for her
own personal taxi service, driving
local seniors to card parties, dinners
and other community events. Kay
often cooks and bakes and brings
meals to residents when they’re sick
and she volunteers her time at
several community dinners.
Kay has also supported groups
like the Blyth Legion, the Clinton
Hospital and the Londesborough
Seniors.
“Her baking is known all over the
country,” one nominator said.

New Blyth students take
on journalistic duties
By Courtney Bachert
Hello, my name is Courtney, I go
to Blyth Public School and I will be
helping to write “The Blyth Bear
Paw” this year along with Phaedra
Scott and Hunter Dale. I’ll keep you
up to date with what the primary
grades are doing and what’s
happening in French or what’s new
with the janitor.
I am in Grade 7 this year and I like
French, math and science. I love
anything that has to do with music
or reading any random book that
looks good. I love public speaking
and love to go crazy with art.
Playing the piano is pretty much
my life. I’ve been playing since I
started kindergarten and I’m
determined not to stop until I’m
finished Grade 8.
I am looking forward to writing in
the newspaper this year to keep you
up to date with the latest and
greatest news of Blyth Public
School.
The primary grades had a great
time this summer, especially Nyla
from senior kindergarten, who went
to see Selena Gomez and Kaden
from Grade 1 who played baseball.
Kids had so much fun in the
summer, but some were glad to get
back to school, like Kal, from Grade
2 who wanted to show everyone his
broken wrist and his cool new cast,
but what Heidi from Grade 2 wanted
most, was to see her old, and maybe
new, friends.
The thing that all these kids were
excited for this year in their class,
was all the field trips they would be
going on, like the Threshers and the
Belgrave School Fair.
This month, the Grade 1/2 class is
enjoying math classes where they
are graphing and other activities.
These activities gave them
opportunities to describe and
examine data by working with the
concepts of counting, more than,
less than and equal to. They are
enjoying a number of read-alouds
