Brewers outnumber, beat Braves
The Walton Brewers were finally

and knocked in two runs. Andrew
VanVliet contributed a double and a
single to the win. Matt Shortreed
rapped out a pair of singles.

on the mound for the Brewers,
tossing a five-hitter and recording
five strikeouts.
Player coach Paul Dolmage said it
was a fast game. “The bats were
lively tonight,” he said.

Winners!
The River Rats had history going for them as they wore jerseys that were 36 years old as they
took top prize at a slo-pitch tournament held in Brussels on Aug. 19-21. The jerseys were worn
by the Egmondville River Rats until they retired five years ago after moving to Winthrop. This
team featured members of that team as well as friends and family from the Brussels, Blyth
and Seaforth areas. Pictured are, back row, from left, Patti Schinbein, Chris Poland, Steve
Eckert, Jason Berard, Darrel Eckert, Pete Albers, Jerry Zwep, and coach Norah Eckert. Front
row, from left are Tracey Eckert, Sandra Hunt, Bill Brown (Coach), Heather Dunbar, Lisa
Stevenson and Lisa Berard. Absent is Tanya Merner. (Denny Scott photo)
