Residents celebrate local and out-of-town weddings
Laurie and Debbie Campbell have
had the first of their two weddings
last week. Tyler Campbell and Jaide
Tervit were married in Teeswater on
a lovely day with a bit of rainfall to
contend with. Tyler was attended by
his three brothers, Cory, Nicholas
and Jordan and friends Mark Hunter
and Lee Dilworth and others dressed
in grey suits. The lovely bridesmaids
wore a gown of champagne with ablack lace overlay. Following thewedding the wedding party travelledto Kincardine to have pictures taken
on the beach. The rain stayed away
until just the end and then the black
umbrellas appeared and made some
very neat pictures. The reception
was held in Teeswater and the hall
was adorned with orchids, birch and
black accents. The couple
honeymooned in Greece and are
living in Brussels. The Brussels
grandparents are Betty Campbell
and Jack and Liz Coultes. Congrats
to Tyler and Jaide!
It was a beautiful summer day for
the exchanging of vows between
Brent Meyers and Andrea
VanderVeen on Saturday, August 27.
Andrea is the daughter of Andy and
Darlene VanderVeen, formerly of
Walton and Brent is the son of Billand Susan (Langlois) Meyers,Clinton. The lovely bride was attended by
her sisters, Jody, Nikki and Janelle,
Marissa Meyers and friends in
gorgeous short gowns of deep
purple. The groom and his
groomsmen wore grey suits and was
attended by his brother Curtis and
five friends. The quartet, Leith,
played during the arrival of guests
and during the ceremony. A
groomsman sang while the couple
signed the register. The wedding
party travelled, courtesy of the
Armstrong bus, for their picture
taking. While the wedding party was
away for pictures, the guests
gathered in tents behind the Blyth
Community Centre for a social time.
The dinner and reception held in
the hall was beautifully decoratedwith white chiffon covering thewalls and white and purple panels ofchiffon covering the ceiling.
Lighted pillars with purple
accents completed the lovely
setting.
The bride made three placard
panels with the couples’ favorite
sayings that were hung on the wall.
The guests all enjoyed wine
provided by George and Pat
Langlois for dinner and as a gift for
each couple present. A highlight of
the evening was the speech by
Grandma Pat. She had everyone
laughing and presented Brent with a
goody bag of all his favorite things,
chocolate etc. Pat was even asked if
she would consider starting a new
career in speech writing. The
newlyweds are enjoying a trip to
Paris, France before returning toschool in London. Congrats to Brentand Andrea!

NEWS
FROM WALTON
New bleachers built at Walton ball park
It is nice to see Gerald and Joan
Miller home for their usual summer
visit. They travelled from
Clairesholm, Alberta and will be
here for about six weeks. They will
spend time visiting with children
Donna and family of Hensall and
with son Rob and his children. They
will attend family reunions and
catch up with their many friends of
the Brussels area. They had dinner
with George and Fannie Somers and
look forward to seeing more friends
before they leave near the end of
September.
The summer is almost over but
that doesn’t mean improvements
can’t be made at Walton Ball Park.
Thanks to some Walton Brewers and
Indians and the generosity of
McDonald Lumber and Rona
Lumber, a set of new bleachers has
been erected at the park. Thanks to
the construction crew of Scott
McDonald, Barry Young and
Andrew Van Vliet.
The pennants celebrating the
Brussels Agricultural Society’s
150th anniversary that the Brussels
United Church are selling are
dwindling in numbers. The group
has about 20 or so left with most of
them featuring the Brussels Public
School and the Brussels Legion Pipe
Band. The pennants can be
purchased by calling Don Chesher at
519-887-8473. Get yours now
before they are history!
Congratulations to Ned and Doris
(McClennan) Thompson on
celebrating their 70th wedding
anniversary. The couple is formerly
of the area and began their married
life on the former second of Grey or
Jamestown Road. The couple moved
around and finally retired in
Mitchell. The couple has three
children, Paul, LouAnn and Beth.
The couple celebrated at the
Mitchell Legion with an open house
in the afternoon. There were many
local family and friends attending
including Edith Warwick and
family. They report it was a lovely
afternoon.
Head north they say and that is
what Fran Bremner and Nora
Stephenson did for a long weekend.
They headed to Wasaga Beach with
Fran’s son Murray and Patricia
Bremner and her daughter Bonnie
and Peter. They rented a cottage and
had a great time. They maybe even
celebrated the “twins” birthday,
which is the end of August.

Visitors see tornado first-hand
Congratulations to Ross and Marg
Bennett on celebrating their 50th
wedding anniversary. The party was
planned by their daughter Nancy
and held at the Brussels Legion. An
open house was held in the
afternoon with over 75 friends
dropping by to wish them well. The
family then enjoyed a dinner with
about 45 of the extended family and
close friends. Ross and Marg have
two children, Nancy and husband
Greg Ducharme and children Evan
and Danielle Ducharme of Brussels,
and their son Peter and wife LuAnn
and daughter Emilee Bennett of
Collingwood.
Brian and Linda Marks and their
nephew Luke have been here in
Ontario for the last 10 days staying
at a cottage in Bayfield. They have
been busy taking in the sites
including the tornado in Goderich
last Sunday afternoon. They were at
the Square when it hit and then held
on to each other and took some
shelter in a doorway. They were
terrified and with Brian’s
background in architecture, he knew
when it was over there was still
great danger with the insides of the
buildings collapsing. They
witnessed the shocked faces of those
on the Square and the immense
damage. They managed to get out of
Goderich and return to Bayfield
shaken but alright.
They have been kept busy visiting
with Mother, Maxine Marks, sister
Sharon Pryce and families and
brother Blaine and family. They
have returned to Calgary after
having quite the experience in
Ontario.
Carters celebrate 40 years
It was a second gathering for
many of the Bennett family as they
gathered for a surprise party this
time on Sunday. A surprise party
was arranged for Allan and Karen
Carter to celebrate their 40th
wedding anniversary and to
celebrate Karen’s 60th birthday.
The party was at their home and
arranged by their daughters Cindy
and Vicki and families. Oldest
daughter Pam of Calgary was
unable to attend at this time. Karen
is the daughter of the late Bill and
Marie (Bennett) Coutts of Walton.
The happy couple was completely
surprised and overwhelmed when
extended family members and
members of their wedding party
arrived. The over 30 enjoyed a
catered meal and a lot of laughter
and fun remembering their antics of
40 years ago. Karen reports it
makes it more real that she is “60”
with the opening of so many cards
with 60 in such big print! Happy
birthday Karen and happy
anniversary to both Allan and
Karen!
