When it becomes, Christmas I don't know of anyone who doesn't become anxious or .curious, The little fellows are so happy when they find a truck or' doll under the Christmas tree, The older people like Mom and pad areT happy when they find a watch or shaver. When the morning is over we take off for a family reunion or go for Christmas dinner. When it getS later you might find carollers at your door, When its nine mom, dad and even the younger ones, get tired and head for bed, That's what Christmas means to me. I like giving presents when I get enough money, I got My mom a big bird, My Brother a small flash light, and my dad some work socks; I am saving up some more money to get my sisters somthing, I like hunting up something to buy, I have to get somthing bigger for my dad, and I myself, I feel happy and excited and anxious and curious on CHRISTMAS. When we get older we want to have the joy of giving to mom, dad, brother and sisters and friends. We have family get together at this one time of year. The birth of Christ was the whole beginning of Christmas. Teenagers like to be out caroling on a sleigh rides with sleigh bells ringing. When Christmas only comes once a year it is a happy joyous time of year. I went out into the living-room and under the Christmas tree were all the presents. My sister got here Barbie doll that she asked for, I went into Mom & Dad's room to wake them up to tell that Santa Claus was here. There's the morning where you get to open presents and the afternoon where we have everyone in the family over to a big feast. I like the turkey and other foods too and for second course the Christmas pudding and the sauce. The fun of exchanging gifts at the family reunion after the family reunion dinner. The happiness corms when we decorate the tree and house. The day is filled with excitement, But I think the most fun of all is giving.where you get to look in the stores and books for gifts. And the fun of watching them open the presents you give them, And then at night when I go to bed I thank God for such a happy day. You should think of the spiritual part of Chrismas because there wouldn't be any Christmas without Christ being born, But there still is the fun part of Christmas and the joy of it all. The opening of presents and A $2-million winter works program to provide special employment opportunities through training for 3,000 unemployed persons was announced by Labour Minister Gordon Carton today. The project is part of the Ontario Government's program to improve the unemployment situation and stimulate the economy. It will be administered by the Industrial Training Branch of the Department of Labour, Mr. Carton 'said the program, is designed to take people off the unemployment rolls and provide them with the opportunity to improve their qualifications for employment. The Ontario Government plan is in addition to those announced by the Federal Government, It will be integrated with current training projects of the Industrial Training Branch. Mr. Carton said a major segment of the program will operate in conjunction with the current apprenticeship and training-in-industry programs of the Industrial Training Branch. He said the project will be co-operative effort of government, the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology and industry. The five-part project will cover: apprenticeship pre-employment training; upgrading provisional certificate holders; on-the-job apprenticeship in small business; special short-term industrial training and additional funds to facilitate training programs for Indians. In the apprenticeship pre-employment training program, the Industrial Training Branch will utilize existing facilities in the Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology throughout the province. The Department of Labour plans to recruit 1,000 unemployed persons to take part in the program and the first apprentices are to be enrolled in giving of happiness, The love and rejoicing of the son of God Jesus Christ! That is what Christmas should mean to people. Ken Wise Grade 7 Holmesville School * * * What Christmas means to me; I when Santa drops down from the chimney Up on the rooftop reindeer eight I hope Santa Claus won't be late When we sneak down to look at the tree I get this happy feeling inside of me It reminds me of when the Wise Men saw the star they had to travel far When the shepherds watched their flocks by night they saw the star that shone bright. This what Christmas means to me. Robin Ormandy Grade 6 Holmesville School * * * Christmas wouldn't be here if it weren't for Jesus Christ being born about 2,000 years ago. So we should think mostly about that. But I like thinking of the excitement of Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Everybody opens their presents and the little children look at play with their toys, Then comes the Christmas dinner. Everybody is rushing to get it ready. Then everybody the colleges early in January. A second group will be recruited and enrolled eight weeks later. Training will be offered in a number of trade .areas in blocks of eight weeks and will be tailored to provide the apprentice with a broad background which will enhance his opportunity for employment in the relevant field. A counselling service will be maintained by the Industrial Training Branch to assist in placing the apprentices on completion of the course, This program will cost approximately $800,000, consisting of $600,000 tuition and $ 2 0 0,000 provincial allowances for the apprentices. A second program to cost $520,000, will give 400 unemployed tradesmen the opportunity to become qualified journeymen. This project will include a 10-week course to assist immigrant tradesmen to improve language skills and to understnad specific trade terminology. A campaign will be conducted by the Industrial Training Branch to encourage small business to participate in the on-the-job apprenticeship program. Employers will receive financial support of 50 per cent of the regulated wage rate for apprentices for a maximum of 12 weeks. • The Industrial Training Branch plans to recruit 500 unemployed for this interim apprenticeship training. The program is expected to provide a larger pool of skilled workers for the time when the economy improves. An allotment of $360,000 has been made for this phase of the program. I feel the same way but there is more to Christmas than that. I like decorating for Christmas making things pretty and different. At Christmas I like to stay on the farm where we can go tobogganing• or go for a walks where it is peaceful. I feel there are many kinds of joy but the most important joy is the joy of giving." And Santa Claus puts them all under the tree. Then Santa Claus goes up the chimney with a flash. When Christmas moring comes we all get up and dash down the stairs and into the living room. And we'll open up the presents with joy. , Raymond Orr Grade 6 Holmesville School special short-term industrial training scheme to involve 1,000 unemployed. Training of the recruits will be conducted in-plant and the employer will receive financial support as is provided in the current Short-Term Industrial Training program. Cost of this project will be $150,000. In a program to assist certain Indian groups, the' government will set up a capital fund of $25,000 to open the way for approximately 100 trainees to take advantage of current Short-Term Industrial Training projects.
