German's hot goaltending stops champion Hawks Third period come back goals give
Mustangs first Junior win
Two comeback ‘hird period
goals gave the Mustangs a 4-3
victory in their league opener on.
Friday night.
Wayne McDougall put Gord
Riley in for a clear shot from the
slot and Riley's hard shot
deflected off the goalie's
catching glove into the net for
the winner at 15:54 of the third
period.
At 8:48 in the third, Ron
Graham banged in his second
rebound goal, this time from a
Jim Cameron shot, to tie the
game 3-3.
After one period the score
was 1-1 on two very quick
goals. Lambeth finally beat Fred
German at 6:26 on a scramble,
then Wayne McDougall scored
his first regular season goal on a
shot from behind the net at
6:36,
During the first period,
Lambeth picked up nine
penalties to Clinton's five, but in
the second period, Clinton was
nailed for six minors to
Lambeth's four. Another
rebound from Dave Fawcett
gave Ron Graham his first goal

man advantage on a breakaway
at 16:37, A face-off shot eluded
German at 18:53 to put
Lambeth ahead.
Throughout the game, goalie
Fred German kept,Clinton in the
game with some excellent saves
even though he had a rough time
seeing through the fog on several
occasions.
Mid-way through the first
period, defenceman Jim
Cameron was hurt after blocking
a blast from the point, but he
was able to return to action after
sitting out a couple of shifts.
Both clubs were assessed
some cheap penalties In the early
stages of the game, In the third,
the Mustangs stuck to heads-up
hockey and except for two
minors and a five-minute
fighting penalty for Bill
Crawford, the boys stayed out
of trouble. Lambeth had six
penalties in the third.
Booster Club Winner —
Charles Fee won a seasons' pass
to all the Mustangs home games.

Rev. McDonald were Sunday
dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Lear on Sunday following
the Anniversary Service.

AIMWELL UNIT
The Aimwell unit of the UCW
held it's meeting Oct. 18 at the
home of Helen Lawson.
The president, Ruth Vincent,
opened the meeting with
meditation and scripture and
prayer. The worship closed with
hymn 263 "My Faith looks up
to Thee." The film, Story of
Albert Schweitzer, was shown.
Nine members and three visitors
were present.
The Christmas Party is to be
held Dec. 13. Helen Lawson and
Joan White are to purchase
necessary material for the
hospital Christmas party. The
favours will be made at the next
meeting. The November meeting
will be at Ella Jewitt's. A film on
Nigeria Changing Rhythms was
presented.
The meeting closed with
Hymn 16 "From all that dwell
Beneath the Skies". Lunch was
served by Ella and Elma Jewitt.
4—H MEETING
On Monday Oct. 18, the
Londesboro 1 4—H Club held its
fifth meeting at the home of
Cathy Lyon.

The Meeting commenced
with the pledge and was
followed by the minutes of the
last meeting. President Heather
Fothergil read the attendance.
Shirley Watkins was only
member absent.
The girls completed the
handout sheets for meeting 5. At
this meeting there were no
demonstrations as the leaders
brought lemon chiffon. Also
enjoyed was cherry cheese cake
which Cathy prepared previous
to the meeting. The group
decided that a cheese tray will
be made for the next meeting
containing as many different
types of cheese as possible. Each
person was to bring a certain
type of cheese.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES
Anniversary services were
held in the United Church on
Sunday Morning and evening
with a large attendance of
members and friends. The
flowers in the church were
placed in memory of Trent
Shobbrook.
Rev. McDonald conducted
the service with Rev. Charles
Scott Chaplain at London
Physchiatric hospital as guest
speaker.
Special music was supplied by
choir and Londesboro mixed
quartette, Barbara Bosman,
Betty Snell, Robbie Snell and
Harry Lear singing "Stranger of
Galilee" and "Just a little walk
The big yellow and black
outfit from Exeter was stopped
cold by Clinton's hot goaltender
Fred German on Sunday night as
Clinton Mustangs came up with
a 24 win.
German faced almost 40
shots in the tough game. Many
were wicked screen shots from
the point and others were
breakaways. The first five
minutes of play was wide-open
with both goalies having to come
up with some hot saves. Clinton
defenceman Greg Jervis had his
with Jesus" with Mrs. Harry
Lear at the organ.
Rev. Scott's message was
"This I Believe". '
In the evening at 8 p.m. a
number of visitors from Blyth
and neigh )oruring churches were
present. Special music was
supplied by the .McMillian Band,
Don, Shirley, Ernie, Elinore and
Elizabeth from Goderich, as well
as the choir and mixed quartette
with Mrs. Harry Lear organist
and Mrs. Tom Allen pianist, Mr.
and Mrs. McMillian sang a duet
"Let Thy Mantle Fall On Me."
Rev. Scott's message was
"New Concepts in Caring".
Following the service all were
invited to the Church Hall for
Fellowship Hour when members
of the committee of Stewards
and their wives were hosts for
this Fellowship Hour.
The McMillian family were
dinner guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Allen Shaddick.
Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Lyons of
Lucknow attended the morning
Anniversary service in
Londesborough and were guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Good.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Shobbrook on Saturday
evening were Mrs. Maude
Radford of Blyth and Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Radford of Port
Colborne. On Sunday dinner

a row. In the final two minutes

Nearly 300 Huron county
public school students took part
Tuesday afternoon in a
cross-country race on the farm
of W. C. Millson at Constance.
Nine schools sent teams of 32
runners each to the event. Huron
Centennial School of Brucefield
ran off with the championship.
Each team had four boys and
four girls in the 10 and under,
11, 12 and 13-15 age groups.
Placings of each runner from
each team in each category were
totaled with the school with the
fewest points winning.
The Brucefield school had
only 418 points. Second was
Hullet Central, the host school,
with 447.
Seaforth was third with 451,
Holmesville next with 607;
Clinton, 620; Blyth, 627;
Robertson Memorial of
Goderich, 648; Brussels, 683 arid,
Victoria Public 'School;
Goderich, 884.
Terry VanDongen of
Holmesville was the fastest girl
in the 10 and under group with
Scott Wheeler of Brussels first
among the boys.
Joani Thompson of Victoria
was first in the 11-year-olds, tied
with Nadine McKay from
Robertson. Gordon Geddes of
Huron Centennial was top boy.
Nancy Kuehl of Clinton was
the top 12-year-old girl with
Brian Lobb of Holmesville top
among the boys. In the 13 and
over group, Mary Lammerant of
Hullett was top girl and Mike
After killing the two man
shortage at the beginning of the
second period the Mustangs
again had to do the same thing
midway through the period. At
11:50 Stover Went off for
elbowing and Clinton capitalized
with a power play goal by. Paul
Johnson, assisted by Bill
Crawford.
Prior to the goal, left winger
Bill Stirling took a cross check
across the nose from Perry
Stover. After a quick patching
job he returned for his regular
shifts.
Bechard of Huron Centennial
top boy.
All groups but the 13 and
over ran a one and one-half mile
course over pasture, wheat field,
bush and plowed field. The older
group travelled a two-mile
course.
Wayne McDougall came very
close on two wrist shots at the
end of the period of both shots
he hit the side of the net.
Five penalties in four minutes
almost cost the Mustangs
midway through the third. Larry
Bourne out-hustled defenceman
Cal "Zeke" gremlin for Exeter's
only goal at 10:46. Four seconds
after the goal, Ron Graham was
assessed a 10-minute
misconduct. At one point, four
defencemen were sitting in the
penalty box forcing coach Bill
Weber to send in forwards as
defencemen
Big Gary Cummings and Gord
Riley were superb in helping kill
off the penalties.
While his teammates were
picking up penalties, German
came up with some unbelievable
goaltending. With only three
minutes left, Stu Mustard missed
on a breakaway and Hayter
robbed Crawford of a sure goal.
Booster winner was Dan
Glidden.
This week the Mustangs
travelled to Lucan on
Wednesday then Sunday will
play Mitchell at 8 p.m. On
Friday night, three of Clinton's
players, Bill Stirling, Stu
Mustard and Bob Cook will play
on the all-star team against
Exeter in Exeter.
