Huron County now boasts
the largest number of girls
participating in 4—H
Homemaking Club Work in
Ontario. Eighty-seven clubs are
presently enjoying the fall
project, "Dairy Fare". In this
club, the girls learn the nutritive
value of milk and dairy
products, as well as enjoy
cooking many dishes which
contain milk.
We are expecting close to
1,000 girls to complete this
project. Quite a record for the
county! Last spring the girls
completed "Separates For

The Food Forum, "A Dollar's
Worth Of Meat", will be held in
Huron County on June 1, 1972.
Food specialists from the
Ontario Department of
Agriculture & Food from
Toronto will be in the county to
demonstrate various ways of
preparing a dollar's worth of
meat. The time and place of the
forum will be announced later,
so do plan to attend next June

Alicordirig to a press release
sent out by the local office for
the Huron District of the
Ontario Department of Lands
and Forests money does grow on
trees after all. It may not be in
the form of cold cash but the
end result remains the same for
those wishing to take advantage
of it.
The lands and Forests people
are in the market for cones,
seeds and walnuts for use as seed
in their reforestation program.
Each year the department
collects sufficient quantities of
seed . from Ontario trees to
maintain supplies used by the
nurseries to produce
approximately 100,000,000
forest tree seedlings annually for
reforestation purposes.
This is a large undertaking. It
requires the assistance of our
entire field organization to
locate and estimate the seed and
cone crops, to arrange for
collections, storage and handling
of the seed and cones and for
final transporting of them to the
Ontario Tree Seed Plant at
Angus or one of the nurseries.
The Department also relies on
the assistance of the citizens of
Ontario because much of the
seed collection is done by local
persons who obtain picking
contracts. In this way you help
us to maintain and expand
Ontario's reforestation program.
This year the Lake Huron
District has talgets to collect
cones of Norway Spruce, White
Spruce and European Larch, and
seed of Black Walnut, White
Ash, Basswood and Black
Locust.
The Division Offices at Owen
Sound, Wingham, and Hespeler
will be organizing collection
programs for specific quantities
of cones and seeds.
Collection will be by contract
only. Please note this change
from previous years when we
were able to accept small
quantities delivered to the
Division Offices.
Only seed of good quality is
wanted, therefore, collections
should be made from healthy,
vigorous trees of good form.
Additional information
concerning when and where to
pick is available from any Lands
and Forests Office.
If you feel you can help us
reach our targets and would like
to collect, seed picking contracts
will be available at the Division
Offices until their target quotas
are filled.
Hog grading
statements
The Agricultural Stabilization
Board of the Canada
Department of Agriculture
recommends to all hog
producers that they retain their
copies of the official grading
statements.
In the event that a deficiency
payment on hogs is made for
1971, the individual payments
would be based on producers
grading statements as proof of
sale and grade.
It is pointed out that each
statement contains bold print
suggesting that it is retained in
case of the Deficiency Payment
Program coming into effect.
Many people brought up in
the Judaeo-Christian culture
know that the Bible is chock full
of health rules and ties clean
living closely to religion,
We have heard the
time-honoured phrase:
"Cleanliness is next to
Godliness." The Bible and other
holy books also had much to say
about oral health, and
toothpicks of one kind or
another were used as far back as
history is recorded.
Other religions also
emphasize good health rules. In
the Koran, Mohammed is quoted
as saying: "You shall clean your
teeth, for this is a means of
praising God."
You don't have to be
religious to realize that good oral
health is vital. If you're a
d ow n-t o-earth atheist, you
should know that keeping your
teeth clean will help keep you
healthy.
The wise ancients were aware
of the importance of keeping
teeth clean. They would have
quickly urged their people to
adopt the technology and
wisdom of today, such as the use
of fluorides in drinking water
and toothpastes, brushing and
rinsing regularly after each meal,
and the avoiding of excessive use
of sugary foods. Sugary foods
trapped between the teeth is the
most frequent cause of tooth
decay.
Poor oral hygiene is closely
linked to other health problems.
Take care of yourself and go for
regular checkups to your dentist
and doctor, and live better and
longer. — Canadian Dental

Brownies
pack meet
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1971,
the first Clinton Brownie Pack
met in the Clinton Public School
in the music room.
First we had a talk about
some things we might do. After
that we went down in the
basement and finished our owls
for the hospital. Then we went
upstairs, had pow-wow, talked
about some more things to do
and had the squeeze. Then
Brown Owl (Sharon Carter)
dismissed us.
