The president, Boa Howatt, opened the meeting with a poem, Happiness. The hymn, "Take Time to be Holy" was sung and the reading "Grandfather me?" was given, Psalm 23 was read in unison. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs, Durnin, It was decided to continue with the draw for another year with Jessie Jinks to provide the gift for the October meeting. An invitation was received from the Women's Institute to attend its grandmothers meeting on Oct. 13, The October meeting will be held at Dorothy Brunsdon's. Collection was received and roll call was answered by 15 members and one visitor. Mrs. Arie Duizer, a new member, was welcomed. The program followed with readings by Olive Gaunt: "Ode to 42 cents" and "God standing there with you." Dora Shobbrook gave the reading, "Who is Delinquent?" Ena Ho watt gave the reading, "Thanksgiving." The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. Lunch was served by Elsie Youngblutt, Emma Livingstone, Gladys Armstrong and Laura Lyon. PERSONALS Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Allan Shaddick were Mrs. Shaddick's mother, Mrs. Walkom of Munro and sister, Mrs. Irene Ferguson of London. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McEwan of Chatham visited on Saturday with her father, Mr, Will Govier and Mrs. Webster. Mrs. Jessie Jones spent Sunday with her son, Mr, and Mrs. Alvin Jones and family of Goderich Township. Mr. and Mrs, Ken Armstrong and family of Stratford, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Armstrong. Those attending the London Area Women's Institute Convention in Clinton Thursday and Friday were Mrs. B. Shobbrook, Mrs. G. Robinson and Mrs. Fairservice. On Thursday Mrs. Gourley, Mrs. Howatt and Mrs. T. Allen also attended. Miss Barbara Burns of St. Joseph's Hospital, London and Miss Pat Burns, Toronto spent the weekend with their parents, Mr, and Mrs. Robert Burns, Barbara attended the Colson—Cole wedding Saturday. Mrs. W. Gourley and Mrs. G. Robinson attended the Huron County Rally of the Women's Institute at Ethel on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Josling of Goderich visited Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs, Joe Shaddick. BAYFIELD 4-H The third 4-H meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Joan Merner where peanut butter custard was made. Milk dishes were discussed as well as the nutrients necessary for good health, the proper care of milk and the added attractions of cottage cheese. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Garrett. —Dawn McLeod * tit * The 10 members of 1,).ce Clinton. IV club-met at the.home of Mrs. McIntosh for the fifth meeting on September 29. They were told that on Saturday, October 2, they would be going to the cheese factory in Atwood. The demonstrations were done by Betty Veenstra who made the "Medium White Sauce" and Jean Falconer made the "Chicken A La King." On October 2, the girls met at Mrs. Gibson's place and left for Atwood, When they arrived at the cheese factory they saw how cheese was produced, and packed for sale. This was a very interesting trip. The first fall meeting of the Clinton Women's Institute was held Sept, 23 in the board rooms of the Department of Agriculture with the president, Mrs. Popp in charge. The Area convention to be held Sept. 30 and Oct, 1 was discussed. Several local church groups were providing meals for the delegates. Mrs, Popp was appointed delegate for Clinton. Ushers were appointed for the convention, A number of members ordered books on the Women's Institute story, It was announced the leadership training school "Learning to sew with knits" would take place at Wesley-Willis Church, Oct. 6.7. Two members from each institute are to attend, A decision was made to continue the donation of five dollars to the spring fair board. Mrs. W. Qolclough and Mrs. Whittington were appointed delegates to the Women's Institute Rally held At Ethel, Oct. 4. A committee is to study ways to celebrate the Women's Institute's 75th anniversary in 1972. Mrs. Charles Nelson is convener, October is visitors month and it was decided to entertain Tiger Dunlop and St, Helen's Institutes at this meeting. Donations were taken for an imaginary bake sale. Mrs. J, Gibson read a poem, "A day at the country fair" and "What is a farmer?" Mrs. J. Grigg gave the topic on public relations saying it is a year-round job and women's work is never done maintaining it, It begins with the individual and the quality of the programs and, most important of all, in public relations and publicity. Opportunity is nothing else but a special arrangement of circumstances in which each Member, as a public relations officer, can project the image of the organization, Mrs. Lorna Radford read two poems "The Home Town Newspaper" and what happens "When the newspaper doesn't come" which were enjoyed by all. Mrs. E. Kendall was convener of the social committee for the day. Middleton The A,C.W. of St. James Middleton will meet Thursday evening October 14, at the home of Mrs. Roy Wise and the roll call word is Thanksgiving. Clinton News-Record, Thursday, October 7, 1971 11 Clinton WI holds first fall meeting BRUCEFIELD 4—Fl CLUB The Brucefield 11 Buttercups held their fourth meeting at Linda Coleman's home on Tuesday Sept, 21. The topic being the many ways we use dairy products in our menus each day and the convenience of them. Kathy Tomkins and Diane Anderson made chocolate fudge. Karen Whitmore and Diane Baird served the fudge. On Sept. 22 some of the girls took the opportunity along with the leaders to visit Holmes Dairy in Clinton. It was informative with Mr. Holmes telling them about each piece of equipment. The fifth meeting was held at the home of Faye Cantelon on Tuesday Sept. 28. The girls discussed the different ways to make white sauces and gravies, also main dishes with sour cream. They talked about how cheese is made with whole or skimmed milk, this and the age Of cheese determines its' name-mild, mod, or old. A cheese tray was made up with different kinds of cheese and apple slices dipped in lemon juice. The girls sampled these. Nancy Anderson and Linda Coleman made cheese drop biscuits and Kathy Lawrence and Rhonda Richardson buttered and served them. They were very tasty. Plans for Achievement Jay got under way with Diane Andetson, Kathy Toinkins and Fays Cantelon in charge. Our topic for this time is Three Ways to use Skim Milk Powder in the ford) of a demonstration.
