Hullett Township Council, at
'ts September meeting,
instructed the clerk to prepare a
ylaw to impose a one per cent
rvice charge on tile drainage
oans.
Council also passed a bylaw
imposing special annual drainage
rates on land in respect of which
money is borrowed under the
Tile Drainage Act, 1971. This
bylaw covers tile drainage loans
amounting to $10,500.
Court of Revision on the
Pickard Drain heard no appeals
and council approved the drain
and voted to call for tenders.

The Ladies Parish Guild of
Trinity Anglican Church held
their first fall meeting of the
season at the home of Mrs. Percy
Weston, Tuesday evening Sept.
4.
The meeting was presided
over by the President Mrs. Mary
Clark. Mrs. Vina Parker,
vice-president, opened the
meeting by reading a very
beautiful poem, The Lord's
Prayer was repeated in unison by
the nine members present.
Mrs. Lloyd Scotchmer,
secretary gave her report and
moved the adoption, which was
seconded by Mrs, Percy Weston.
The correspondence was
received and filed.
Treasurer, Mrs. Mert Merner,
ave her report showing a good
ank balance. She moved the
doption of her report, which
as seconded by Mrs. Mary
lark. There were two bills
utstanding to be paid.
A euchre and bridge party
as planned for Friday evening.

Varna man retires from Communic:ations

Tile drainage loan

Payment was authorized for a
payment of $20 to John Adams

Mr. and Mrs. Quigley of
London, and Mr. and Mrs. C.
Uptigrove of New Hamburg
visited with their sister-in-law,
Mrs. Len Smith,• this past
weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brandon,
Lynn and Mr. Jack Walker spent
a few days last week in Ardbeg,
Northern, Ontario.
Reverend John Graham
(Ret.) and Mrs. Graham of
Wallacetown spent a week at the
Miss Kay Reid cottage.
Reverend Graham was the
rector of Trinity Anglican
Church, Bayfield, Middleton and
Varna parishes from 1939 to
1945. They had a most
enjoyable holiday renewing
many old friends and
acquaintances.
Miss Barbara Graham held a
teen-age farewell party ,to
honour Miss Brenda Makins who
is a student muse in Stratford
General Hospital. A social
evening of fun and games was
highlited by a farewell cake
made by Barbara. It was
decorated with white icing with
red forming a red cross, Brenda
was overjoyed. We all wish her
the very best in her new career.
Reeve Ed Oddleifson is'home
again after being hospitalized for
a few days. He is feeling much
improved, and is as busy as ever,
Miss Colleen Merrier has
accepted a position with
Simpsoria—Sears in Toronto. She
is also attending modelling
school each week.
Mr. Lorne Merrier is presently
visiting his older brother
Garfield in Vancouver B.O.
Lorne and Colleen ate children
of Mr. and Mrs. Merton Metter.
Several carloads of Bayfield
residents attended the impressive
rally in the Harboutlight Inn,
Goderich, Friday evening where
the Progressive Conservatives
chose Charles MacNaughton as
their candidate in the upcoming
election on October 21,
Chairman for the evening was
James Donnelly, Q.C.
Charles Scotehtner is the
Bayfi eld chairman. Everett
McIllwain and Gerry Ginn ate
chairmen for Goderich township
and Anson McKinley is chairman
for Stanley.

honoured at a retirement dinner
party at Wonderland, London,

The September meeting of
the Tpckersmith Unit I, United
Church Women, Brucefield
Congregation, met at the home
of Mrs. Ervin Sillery with an
attendance of 21 and one visitor.
Mrs. McEwan opened the
meeting with a poem. In the
absence of Mrs. Scott, Mrs. E.
Stoll assisted with the devotion
and spoke on the commandment
"Remember the Sabbath and
Keep it Holy".
The collection was taken and
dedicated by Mrs. MeEwen. She
also spoke on working on
Sunday, after which there was a
discussion.
Mrs. Paterson took the chair
for the business portion of the
meeting. It was decided to 'hold
the bazaar at Brucefield School
on Nov. 13. Mrs. Ervin. Sillery
gave the secretary's report and
the treasurer's report was given
by Mrs. Berry.
The regional meeting will be
held in Bayfield, Oct. 15. It was
decided to send a travel basket
and apron to raise funds in
September for the new church,
to be returned at the October
meeting which will be held at
the home of Mrs. E. Thomson.
A dainty lunch was served by
the hostess and her committee,
Mrs. George Henderson, Mrs. H.
Allan, Mrs. S. Ross an Mrs. W.
Rogerson.

Mr. and Mrs. Ross Scott left
for Calgary last week where Mr.
Scott will attend a Masonic
sales and management.

recently with his mother, Mrs.
J. W. McBeath.

Broadfoot spent the weekend,
with Mr. and Mrs. John
Broadfoot.
Miss Darlene Burdge spent
the weekend in the village.
Local 4-H
Club meets
The Bayfield 4—H was held
on Tuesday, September 14, at 7
p.m., at the home of Mrs. Joan
Merner. The name of the club
has not yet been decided.
Officers elected were:
Norma Garrett, president;
Shirley Brandon, vice-president;
Dawn McLeod, press reporter
and secretary; and Sharon Bunn,
treasurer.
The ways to buy and use milk
were discussed. Grilled cheese
sandwiches and cocoa were
served as refreshment.
Mr.. Bert Riddle, property
supervisor .of. .L9Arlen region,
presented Mr, Johnston 'with an
eleetric shaver from the London
office,
Mr. Johnston thanked them
for the gifts and also the ones
who planned the party, He also
recalled many .pleasant
memories, and friends he had
worked with over the years.
A number of guests were
present from head office in
Toronto and from Exeter,
Stratford, Islington, Ingersoll,
Alvinston, Dutton, Conrtright,
Newbury, Moorestown, Burford,
Bayfield, Kippen and London,
