County Board of Education has removed its authorization
for the sale of such insurance through the school system.

The Historical Research and
Current Events meeting was held
at "Durnbrae Farm" with Mrs.
Caldwell hostess and Mrs. A,
McGregor as co-hostess.
Roll call was answered by —
Did you know? a current event.
There Was a moment of
silence in memory of a very
valued member, the late Mrs,
Wm, Kyle. Reports were given,
treasurer, Mrs. H. Caldwell;
Citizenship and Education, Mrs.
A, McGregor; Sunshine, Mrs.
Wm. Bell; Agriculture, Canadian
Industries, Mrs, D. Triebneil,
Historical Research 'and Current
Events, Mrs. M. Connally and
Mrs. J. Drummond.
Mrs. R, Bell read a poem,
Country Lanes. Mrs. H.
Caldwell will be the voting
delegate to the Area Convention
in Clinton September 30 and
October 1, Mrs. M. Connally and
Mrs, R. Bell will be delegates to
the Rally in Ethel on October 4.
Mrs. J, Drummond commented
on the motto — If you look back
too much you soon will be
headed that way. Mrs. D.
Triebnert gave the History of the
Brucefield Church.
Mrs. H. Caldwell discussed
the origin of antiques. On
display were many beautiful
pieces of Carnival Lustreware,
Satin glass, Vaseline glass and
others. Mrs. Ross Broadfoot
contributed a piano selection.
Mrs. G. MacLean gave courtesy
remarks. Mrs, C. Pullman
conducted an unusual contest
using numbers. Mrs. C. Pullman
and her committee served lunch.
Mrs. R. Bell, the president,
conducted the business and Mrs.
C. Eyre the program.

ACW MEETS
The ACW of ' St. Paul's
Church, was held at the home of
Mrs, Mary Taylor on Thursday,
September 16. The president,
Mrs. W. Scarbuick opened the
meeting with the members
prayer followed by devotions
from the living message, Mrs.
Mary Taylor read the Scripture
Lesson, October 30 was the date
set for the bazaar and bake sale.
Mrs. A, Reid and Mrs. F. Forrest
are to convene it. Mrs. F. Forrest
read a paper on Brand Names
Parade. Roll call was answered
by Household Hints.
Mrs, A. Reid took the topic,
"Learn To Say No," stating
many times we must say no in
training our children, and in
social life, one must give a
positive no if they are becoming
koo involved.
The meeting closed with the
Benediction from the Living
Message.
A " Harvest Thanksgiving
Service will be held at St. Paul's
Church, Hensall, on Sunday,
September 26. Guest speaker
will be Rev, Harold Jenkins,
B.A., of the parishes of Gorrie
and Fordwich.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oesch of
Hensall celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary Saturday,
September 18, 1971.
Samuel Oesch and the former
Mary Bedour, Zurich, were
married in London by Rev.
Morris at the United Church
Manse, September 18, 1921.
They farmed in Stanley
Township until retiring in
Hensall in 1958. Their only son
Russell resides on the homestead
farm. They also have three
daughters, Kathleen, Mrs. Bob
Bell, Clinton; Anne, Mrs. Earl
Flaxbard, Zurich; Mae, Mrs. Ray
McNeil, Fergus; 24
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren.
The couple were honored at A
dinner given by the family at
Dashwood Community Centre
followed /with a social evening
with music by the Country
Ramblers., Friends And relatives
attended from Detroit and
Mount Clements, U,S,A,, Sarnia
and surrounding areas, They
received many beautiful' gifts,
cards, and congratulations from
Prime Minister Trudeau, Hon.
Charles MacNaughton, Premier
-Davis, Hon. Robert Stanfield
and R. E. McKinley M.P, for
Huron,

A special Christian Education
Service was held in Hensall
United Church, Sunday
morning, September 19. For his
subject Rev. Donald R. Beck
based his thoughts from the
message "A New Generation."
Thanks was expressed to Mrs.
Ian McAllister who as chairman
of the congregational Work and
Life committee occupied the
pulpit to read the lessons and
explain the church's program for
the coming season. Thanks also
were expressed to the Zurich
Girls Choir, who, under the
direction of Miss Meda Surerus
and Mrs. Beatrice Hess, provided
special music.
Flowers in the sanctuary were
in loving memory of Mrs.
William Kyle and Robert Baker
Sr. from their families.

2:30 p.m. Rev. D. R. Beck will
preach and Huronia Men's Choir
of Exeter will provide the special
music.

Amber Rebekah Lodge held
their fall meeting Wednesday,
September 15, with Noble
Grand, Mrs. Jack Taylor
presiding, assisted by Mrs.
Elizabeth Riley, vice-grand.
Cards were sent to Mrs.
Estelle Jackson of Brucefield
who fractured her arm.
Sympathy cards were sent to the
Kyle family, and a plant sent •to
Cecil Pepper, a patient at
Victoria Hospital, A letter was
read from the district secretary
informing the Lodge date of
installation, October 5. Cards are
to be sent to all members to
attend and an invitation to be
sent to E delweis Lodge,
Seaforth, to attend installation
of Amber Rebekah Lodge
officers, Happy Birthday was
sung to Mrs. E. Chipchase, Mrs.
M. Ingram and Mrs. Ray Consitt.

Miss Susan Jinks of London
(formerly of Hensall), bride-elect
of this month, was honored at a
miscellaneous shower for which
Mrs. Fred Peters was hostess at
her home, Wednesday,
September 15. Twenty-five
friends and relatives attended.
The home decorations were in
pink and white motif. The
presentation address was read by
Mrs. Edgar McClinchey, and the
lovely gifts presented by Miss
Gail Jinks, London, and Miss
M so n Dashwood, Dainty
refreshments were served.
Arranging the shower were Mrs.
Edgar McClinchey and Mrs. Cecil
Cooper.

The youth of Henson and
area recently met at the United
Church to elect their slate of
officers for the coming year.
They are: president, Cathy
Cook; vice-president, Brian
Beck; secretary, Pam Mickle;
treasurer, Joe Reaburn. It was
decided to meet Wednesdays of
every week at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Rodger Venner is a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.

St, Paul's Anglican Church,
Hensel', was the scene of a
pretty wedding on Saturday,
September 11, at 2 p,m.
The marriage was solemnized
between Deanne Marlene
Scrabuik of Hensall and Jody
Gordon Lee Smith of Forest,
Ontario,' by the Rev. George
Anderson of Exeter. The bride is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Scrabuik of Hensall and
the groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Smith of Forest.
The bride was radiant in a
white crepe grecian gown with
chantilly lace veil surmounted
on white flowers and small
pearls. She wore a silver necklace
with small pearl pendant and
pearl stud earrings and carried a
bouquet of red roses. Her maid
of honour was Miss Marilyn
Whitney of Crediton, who was
charming in a green gown, the
bodice of which was green velvet
with the high-waisted skirt of
green and silver brocade. She
carried a bouquet of pink
rosebuds and white daisies.
The mother of the bride wore
a torquoise gown and white
accessories, while the mother of
the groom wore a blue lace gown
and white accessories, with
corsages of mauve and white
baby mums.
The best man was Mr, Bob
Smith of Forest, brother of the
groom.
The bride was given in
marriage by Mr. Duncan
Pennycook of Exeter, friend of
the family and a former
colleague of Mr. Scrabuik, who
was unable to attend owing to
the nature of his employment
with the Ontario Government,
near Sudbury, Ontario.
Miss Mary Godwin rendered
two solos accompanied by Mrs.
Frank Forrest at the organ.
The wedding reception was
held at the home of Mrs,
qcrabuik where the two-tiered
wedding cake was cut by the
bride, with the assistance of the
groom with 20 euests present.
Cables of congratulations
were received from Mr. and Mrs.
Andre Maurice of Oromocto,
N.13„ brother of the bride, Mr.
and Mrs. Timothy Atkinson,
Fruitvale, B.C., sister of the
bride, Miss Maureen Maurice,
Montreal, P.Q., sister of the
bride, and Mrs. John Schaffer,
London, England, grandmother.
As her going away outfit, the
bride chose a brown woolen
skirt and vest with yellow frilled
blouse and brown accessories.
The young married couple left
for parts unknown at five
o'clock. They will reside in the
Hensall area where Mr. Smith is
employed by General Coach.
W,M.S. MEETING
The Women's Missionary
Society meeting was held in the
Sunday School room on Monday
Sept. 13 at 8:30 p.m.
Vice-president, Mrs. Gordon
Schwalm presided and opened
the meeting with a poem. The
devotional was given by Mrs.
It Onus Faber and assisted by
Mrs. Ed Munn and Mrs, Harvey
Hyde Acting secretary for the
evening was Mrs. Percy
Campbell. Contributions to the
"least coin" were made with a
Prayer. The W.M,S. and Arnold
Circle were to be hostesses to
the Huron Presbyterial held
Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Carmel
Presbyterian Church with Miss
Hazel MacDonald a guest
speaker. Miss MacDonald spent
three years in Africa as a
missionary.
Several members paid their
subscription dues to the 1972
Glad Tidings to Mrs. Ed. Munn
who is Gladtidings secretary.
The new annual Canada
Council Blue book was passed
around for members to see and
take home to read, A new daily
devotional reading book, "These
Days" is available by yearly
subscription,
One hundred pounds of used
clothing was sent to the West the
week earlier,
The next meeting will be held
Oct. 4 and roll call will be
answered with "Thanks." The
devotional is to be given by Mrs.
George Walz and Mrs. Madge.
A birthday party was held for
Mrs. Bertha Jinks on her 88th
birthday at the home of Mr. apd
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm on Sept,
13. Those attending and taking
part were Mrs. Joe Ferguson,
Mrs. Verna Twitchell, Mrs. Alma
Hess, Mrs. Pearl Earatt, Mrs.
Albert Alexander, Mrs. Lewis
Clark, Mrs. Len Purdy and Mrs.
Fanny Clark,
We opened the meeting with
the 4-H pledge at the borne of
Mrs. McIntosh on 'Sept. 15. The
minutes were read by Joanne
Gibson. Then we went to the
kitchen and Brenda Gibbings
made the Butterscotch pie and
Nancy Gibbings made the
topping. Betty Veenstra made
the potato salad.
Mrs. McIntosh led the
discussion on "milk", and how
milk and soft drinks were
different.
