90th birthday
•mrs, 0. L. Paisley, one of
Clinton's oldest and most
esteemed residents celebrated
her 90th birthday on
Wednesday, September 1, with
many attendant festivities.
The previous Monday all the
immediate members of the
Paisley family met at the Hotel
Clinton for a family dinner in
her honour,
Her nieces, Miss Jean
McEwen and Mrs, Marion
Laramie of Kincardine had their
Aunt Mary to a luncheon
complete with birthday cake,
the week previous.
Miss D. J, McEwen held an
informal tea at her farm home in
honour of the occasion. Mrs.
Paisley was born in this very
house in 1881.
Mrs. Charles Boyd poured tea
and among those present were
Mrs, Don Symons, Mrs. Aiken,
Mrs, Grace German and Mrs.
Milton Steepe.
Following the tea, Mrs.
Paisley and Mrs. Steepe were
welcomed to the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Middleton.
They were joined by Mrs. C. H.
Epps and all proceeded to the
Red Pump at Bayfield as Mrs.
Steepe's dinner guests.
Mrs. Steepe also provided a
candled birthday cake and Mrs.
—(Epps gave Mrs. Paisley a corsage
and a bouquet of roses to grace
the dinner table.
Mrs. Paisley resided on
MRS. 0. L, PAISLEY
Princess Street, Clinton, from
19 04 until 1969. During
centennial year she was one of
the senior citizens (along with
Mr. A. J. MacMurray)
interviewed on CKNX TV. Mrs.
Paisley spent last winter with her
son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Paisley in Tuscon,
Arizona. She is now a lively
resident of Huronview and still
enjoys a game of bridge.

Auburn pastor and wife
celebrate 50th anniversary
Bouquets of golden shaded
mums and pots of golden mums
decorated the Knox United
Church last Sunday for the joint
service of Donnybrook and
Auburn churches. Mrs, Norman
Wightman was the organist and
Miss Nancy Anderson presided
at the piano.
Pastor Alfred Fry led the
service and his brother, Mr, Cecil
Fry of Kincardine, read the
Scripture lesson and sang a solo,
"He Touched Me". Rev. Hugh C.
Wilson of Exeter led in prayer
and Mr. Maurice Bean, Clerk of
Session, read the
announcements.
The offering was received by
the ushers, Kenneth McDougall,
Allan Webster, Gordon Gross
an Murray Rollinson,
Pastor Fry spoke on his
personal experiences in, the
ministry of the church and the
four charges he had served on.
Miss Nancy Anderson sang
the solo, "Just A Little Closer
Walk With Thee".
Following the service, a
reception followed in the
Auburn Community Memorial
Hall where the tea-table was
centered with an arrangement of
golden shaded gladioli flanked
by lighted golden tapers. Mr,
Maurice Bean was master of
ceremonies. He thanked
everyone for assisting the
committee who had planned th^
special day for Pastor and Mrs.
Fry, who were celebrating their
50th Wedding Anniversary. Mr:
and Mrs. Fry were called to the
platform, Mr. Oliver Anderson
read an address of
congratulations, Mrs. Kenneth
McDougall presented them with
a sat of gold trimmed T.V. tables
and Mr. Gerald McDowell and
Mr. Norman Wightman
presented them with a gold
upholstered swivel rocker, Mrs.
Tom Armstrong of the
Donnybrook church read an
address and Mr. Ernest Snowden
presented a gold trimmed table
lamp.
Pastor and Mrs. Fry thanked
their congregations for the
lovely gifts and introduced the
five members of their family
who were all present.
Rev. Hugh C. Wilson brought
greetings, congratulated Pastor
and Mrs. Fry on this occasion,
and pronounced Grace.
A delicious lunch was served
by the members of Unit 2,
assisted by the Young People of
the church.
Over 150 attended the
reception in the hall to pay
tribute to Pastor and Mrs. Fry
who have been here over two
years.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies
returned recently from visiting
relatives — Mr. and Mrs. Warren
Frank of Toledo, Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Comlin of Detroit and Mrs,
James Comlin, Nancy and
Cathy, also of Detroit,
Mr. William Rueger, Ronnie
and Carol of R, R. 2, Clinton,
visited last Sunday with his
daughter, Mrs. Donald
Cart*right, Mr. Cartwright,
David, Derrick and Lode,
Visiting at the home of Mr,
and Mrs. Tom Lawlor and Jim
on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs.
Art Hoggart and family of
Bayfield; Mrs. Nell Ladd of
Benmiller; Mrs. Audrey Guindon
and family; and Mr, Clinton
Wilson. All enjoyed a barbecued
supper. Mr. and Mrs, Reg Shultz
and family of Blyth joined them
in the evening for a social time.
Mrs, Beth Lansing attended
the Chappell—Damude wedding
at Burlington and later visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Squire
and family.
Mrs. James Young of Ripley
is visiting with her niece, Mrs.
Ted Mills, and Mr. Mills. Mr. and
Mrs. Irwin Schmidt, Tracy and
Brenton of Burlington spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Mills.
Recent guests with Mrs.
Myrtle Munro were Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Youngblut and family of
Toronto and Mr. -end Mrs.
Donald Youngblut and family of
London.
Mrs. Tom Hallam of R. P, 4,
Goderich, and grand-daughter,
Shelley, visited with Mrs. Tom
Lawlor recently,
Mrs. Orval McPhee is a
patient in Victoria Hospital,
London. We wish her a speedy
recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
Rathwell, Michael and Janice of
Chatham spent the holiday with
her mother, Mrs. Celia Taylor.
Staff Sgt. and Mrs. Len
Coyne returned to Windsor after
vacationing with her brother,
Mr. Ross Robinson, and Mrs.
Robinson.
Mr. and Mrs. William
Straughan visited for a few days
last week with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Jardin at Wingham.
Miss Judy Arthur of Montreal
is holidaying with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur, and
family.

class for doubles at the Hanover
Fall Fair last Saturday in the
horseshoe pitching competition.

Windsor and Mrs, R. Bennett of
Detroit spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamilton.
Sunday visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell were
Mr. and Mrs, Don Montague of
Detroit, Mrs. Jessie Snelling of
Brucefield and Mrs. Janet Baker
of Seaforth.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Webster
and son, Timothy, of
Stevensville spent the holiday
with his brother, Mr. Harry
Webster.
WALKERBURN CLUB
The August meeting of the
Walkerburn Club was held at the
home of Mrs, Worthy Young
with 12 members present. The
president, Mrs. Elliott .Lapp, was
in charge and opened the
meeting with a poem followed
by the singing of "0 Canada".
Mrs. Garth McClinchey led in
prayer.
The minutes were accepted as
read by the secretary, Mrs.
Worthy Young,
Mrs. Thomas Cunningham,
the treasurer, gave the financial
statement.
The roll call was answered by
each member telling where they
would have liked to have gone
for a vacation this year.
Plans were made for the next
meeting and Mrs. Lapp invited
the club to meet at her home at
8:15 p.m. The program is to be
in the charge of Mrs. Walter
Cunningham and Mrs. Lloyd
McClinchey and the roll call will
be answered by paying a penny
for each inch of waistline. The
lunch will be in the charge of
Mrs. Leonard Archambault and
Mrs. Ronald Gross.
Mrs. Worthy Young won the
draw.
A discussion took place on
different ways to make money
and it was decided to hold a
hobo tea the second or third
week of September.
Mrs.tarth McClinchey was in
charge of a program of contests
and lunch was served by Mrs.
Walter Cunningham and Mrs.
Lloyd McClinchey.
Ten members of the Clinton
IV club met at the home of
Brenda McIntosh on September
1, 1971. The "Merry Dairyettes"
elected Jean Falconer, president;
Cheryl Kennedy, vice-president;
Nancy Gibbings, treasurer; Betty
Veensrra, press secretary;
Darlene Carnohan and Brenda
Gibbings, phone girls.
The club is under the
leadership of Mrs. Gibson and
Mrs. McIntosh. Our guest was
Mrs. Carnohan who was
interested in seeing what we do
at our. meetings, The
demonstrations were done by
Marlene Dale who baked the
grilled cheese sandwiches. Debi
Gibbings made the drink called
"The Pink Panther." Jean
Falconer and Nancy Gibbings
cleaned up and did the dishes.

A shower was held at the
home of Eno Howatt on Monday
night September 6. when about
30 friends, neighbours and
relations of Linda Radford,
bride elect, were present.
Brenda Radford welcomed all
and each person introduced
herself. Contests were held.
A reading "How to Cook A
Husband" which was written in
1898 was read by Brenda
Radford. A contest, cutting the
cake by Helen Lee was won by
Florence Snell. A contest, The
market garden was won by
Shirley Lyon and Brenda
Radford. Another contest, let
Linda set the table, was won by
Denise Radford. An address
followed, read to Linda by
Brenda Radford. Gifts were
brought in by Kathy and Kevin
Radford. Linda thanked all for
the gifts.
Lunch was served by Madelon
Radford, Ena Howatt, Colleen
Howatt and Helen Lee.
Miss Pauline Adrie and Miss
Brenda Ball left on Sunday for
two weeks vacation in Jamiaca.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley
Shobbrook of Toronto visited
on the weekend with former -
cousin Mrs. H. flunking.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook
are spending this week at the
home of their daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Ron Ellerby in Clinton
while they are on holidays on
Manitulen Island.
Mr.Tom Allen had
misfortune to get ids hand
caught in the elevator on
Saturday, requiring a number of
stitches.

were Miss Linda Bell of Prince
Rupert, B.C.

patient in Clinton hospital
having had surgery on Monday,
August 30.

visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Miss Wendy Caldwell left on
Monday to Toronto Western
Hospital to train for nursing.
Miss Heather Snell of
Londesboro and Miss Janice
Fowler of Lucknow are enjoying
a two-week vacation in England,
Scotland and Wales.
Mr. Bill Ross returned home
on Friday after spending the
past nine weeks in Clinton
hospital.
Mr. and Mrs, Earl Gaunt
spent past week as guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Clarke at
Meneset Park Coderich,
Mrs, Mabel Scott returned to
Niagara Falls with her son
Kenneth and wife on Monday,
September 6 for a visit, having
spent past month Mr. Will
Govier and Mrs. Webster.
Mrs. E. Howatt spent three
days last week with her daughter
Mr. and Mrs. Mac Hodgert of
Kirkton.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hamilton
of London visited on the
weekend with her father and
also visited her aunt, Mrs.
Webster in Clinton hospital.
Mrs. John Snell Sr, is a
patient in Clinton hospital for
the past two weeks.
