Colts oust Mitchell, advance ll OBA play
The little green machine of
the Clinton Juveniles shifted
into high gear last weekend.
After being down twq games
to none they fought back,
winning three to defeat Chesley.
Clinton completely dominated
the last three Pales of the series,
both defensively and offensively.
Clinton advanced into the
O.B.A. Juvenile "C" semi-finals
against Hagersville,
At Hagersville last Sunday
On Saturday the Ponies went
ahead 9-1 after three innings,
then coasted to a 10.3 win over
Bolton in the first game of the
Ontario Baseball Association
quarter finals.
Bolton's starting pitcher,
Yerex; gave up hits to Neil
Coiquhoun and Paul Priestap in
the first with Coiquhoun
scoring.
Three walks in the second
and seven in the third gave
Clinton eight runs. Pat Phillips
and Robert Harkes scored two
runs, Steve Steep, Dave Clynick,
Paul Priestap and Terry Gordner
each scored one.
Bolton changed pitchers in
the fourth and the new pitcher
held the Ponies to two singles by
Clinton won the first game 4.3,
Steve Switzer started for Clinton
but had to be pulled because he
had jammed his right thumb
attempting to bunt. Paul Bartliff
relieved for three and two-thirds
innings. Stu Mustard finished the
game for Clinton.
The next game immediately
follows the Intermediate game
Saturday at approximately 4
p.m
Steve Steep and Dave Clynick
with Steep scoring on Clynick's
hit.
Terry Gordner went the route
for Clinton and gave up two hits
in the third, one in the fourth
and three in the seventh, In the'
fourth he gave up his only walk
but third baseman Priestap,
second baseman Clynick and
first baseman Doug Reihl
combined for a beautiful double
play.
SUNDAY ACTION
In Bolton Sunday, the game
was a reverse of Saturday's
game. The Bolton pitchers held
Clinton to three hits. Pat
Philip's single in the second gave

It took an 11th inning rally
to give Clinton their
hard-earned, 6.5 win. Butch
Fleet picked up his fourth walk
of the game to open the inning,
went to second on Brad 1:Mot's
ground out to first base and then
scored after singles by Don
Bartliff and Greg Burns off
Mitchell pitcher Bob Parkinson.
Mitchell had jumped on
Archie Pickett, the Clinton
pitcher, early in the game,
Bob Cheros, who hit for two.
doubles and three singles in the
game, led off with a double but
Fleet picked him off second
Clinton an early 3-1 lead, have
Clynick, Mark Nicholson and
Robert Harkes scored on the hit.
Four costly errors and two
tough calls by the umpires
helped Bolton to six runs in the
third. In the fifth, Bolton
widened the score to 8-3 on
three hits and an error.
In the seventh, the Ponies
came up with runs by Neil
Coiquhoun and Terry Gordner.
The third and final game is
Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in
Clinton.
Other teams in the quarter
finals are Rockcliffe, Deseronto,
Hagersville, Fonthill, Lambeth
and Dresden.
Sandra Graham, 17-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mel
Graham, Brucefield, has
returned home after
participating in the Canadian
Sehior Ladies Fastball finals in
Calgary, and brought with her
the trophy for the all-star
base, Am Pletcher followed with
another double before Doug
Theiseen belted his two-run
homer.
Clinton scored one run in the
second when Fleet walked And
scored on en error, two more
walks and a wild pitch,
Laurie Coiquhoun tied the
game 2-2 in the third, then
Mitchell pitcher Parkinson hit a
solo homer in the fourth and a
two-run homer in the sixth to
give himself a 5-2 lead,
For the first five innings
Clinton had only three hits, but
in the bottom of the sixth,

championship, knocking out the

Wilkesport pounded Brad
Dutot for 10 hits and the early
ones in the first four innings
gave them a 5.0 lead, Don
Bartliff scored in the eighth and
Ham Leppington scored in the
ninth on Doc Miller's double for
the two Clinton runs.
Wilkesport's left-hander held
Clinton to seven scattered hits
while retiring three by strikeouts
and allowing no walks.
Archie Pickett's arm should
be in good shape with a week's
layoff, for this Saturday's game.

hosts triple
header
Baseball fans at Clinton will
have a chance to see a whole
afternoon of action at
Community Park Saturday as
three local teams progress in
Ontario Baseball Association
Playoffs.
The action begins at 1 p.m.
when Wilkesport takes on the
Clinton , Colts in intermediate
category. Wilkesport leads the
series one game to none.
At 3 p.m. on the second
diamond at the park, Clinton
Ponies will play Bolton in
peewee play downs. The series is
tied one game each.
At 4 p.m. Hagersville and
Clinton juveniles will hook up in
their series with Clinton leading
one game to nothing.
Ponies tied 1-1 with Bolton in OBA.
