country on Saturday when
MeRillop Township No. 10 at
Winthrop was sold to Mr. Ken
Beattie of R. It, 4, Walton,
The school was the last of
seven M cK illoP Township
schools to be sold during the
two-day sale on August 21 and
28.
This last school went for only
$725 to Mr. Beattie, who
already owned the land on
which it sat. Others went to;
S.S, NO, 2, Mr, and Mrs,
William Massey, Weston, for
$4,400; S,S. No. 4, Mr. Tom
Schoonderwoerd, Mitchell, for
$4,650; S.S. No. 6, Dyke
Wheatley, R. R. ,1, Dublin, for
$600; S.S. No. 7, Mr, S. A,
Collier, Scarborough, $3,650;
S.S. No. 8, William Kelley,
$3,900 and S.S. No, 9, Mrs, W.
Kelly, R. R. 1, Staynor, for
$5,000.
The contents of the schools
sold for $1,939.40.
Large crowds attended all the
auctions.
The English essayist in

Mr. and Mrs. Milton Steepe
celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary on Sunday, August
29, 1971. It was a quiet event
due to Mr. Steepe's being
confined to Clinton Public
Hospital.
The festivities were hel in
the beautifully-appointed board
room of the hospital. The tea
table was centered with an
arrangement of seasonal flowers
and graced by a decorated
wedding cake flanked by gold
and white candles. Present for
the occasion were many
members of the couple's family
including: Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth
Steepe and family of Kitchener:
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Steepe and
family of Holmesville; Mr. and
Mrs. Ronald Steepe and family
of Waterdown and Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Wilson and family of
London.
There were also 10
grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren present.
Many congratulatory
messages were received. .These
included a telegram from the.
Hon.. Pierre Elliott Trudeau,
Prime Minister of Canada; The
Hon, Robert L. Stanfield, leader
of the opposition; the Hon. R.
E, McKinley, M.P. for Huron
and the Hon. Robert Nixon,
leader of the provincial
opposition.
The Hon, William Davis,
Premier of Ontario, together
with the Hon. Charles
MacNaughton, M.P.P. for Huron,
sent a framed scroll, a gift from
the Province of OntariO.
Following the festivities at the
hospital, a picnic supper was
enjoyed on the grounds of the
Milton Steepe residence. Guests
were present from Waterdown,
Kitchener, Waterloo, New
Hamburg, Wellesley, London,
Holmesville, Londesboro and
Stratford.
Mr. and Mrs. Steepe farmed
on Concession 9 of Goderich
township prior to moving to
Clinton in 1962.
The community joins in
extending their best to this most
respected and esteemed couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Milton Steepe celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary Sunday with a quiet party of relatives in the board
room of Clinton Public Hospital where Mr. Steepe is a patient.
The couple farmed for , many years on Concession 9 of
Goderich township before coming to Clinton.

S.S. no. 10 at Winthrop, last of the McKillap schools to go. on sale attracted a large crowd for its
sale, even though the school was sold subject to destruction or removal. A group of the interested
viewers chat on the steps of the school before the auction begins.
Long-time residents of the Winthrop area examine a group of pictures commemorating the young
men of the area who were killed during World War I. The picture was rescued from the auction and taken to the Winthrop township hall.
