Miss Ingold will be studying at the University of London Institute of Education, London, England, NDP continues •to prepare for fall election On Sunday, August 22, the Huron New Democratic Party came one step closer to completion of their preparations for the upcoming provincial election. Provincial organizer, Gordon Cochrane, conducted an `Election Canvass School', which was very well attended. The important thing about this meeting in Goderich was the enthusiasm displayed by those in Centennial Scholarships worth $2,000 each were awarded to five teachers: Miss Marilyn. Angus of Etobicoke, Mrs. Amy Dauphinee of Ottawa, Mrs, Joan Hollywood of Ottawa, Mrs. Diana Morgan of Ottawa and Miss Geraldine Stairs of Scarborough. Open Scholarships for graduate study were won by Miss Catherine Beattie of Hamilton, Miss Rochelle Carr of Toronto, Mrs. Janet Coates of Oshawa, Mrs. Marion Cross of St. Catharines, Mrs. Anita Dunlop of Ottawa, Mrs. Joan Magee of Toronto and Mrs. Marjorie Sarazen of Ottawa. attendance. The instruction given by Mr. Cochrane, it was agreed, was informative and helpful. Huron New Democratic candidate, Paul Carroll, has spent the last few weeks visiting voters in the rural areas of the riding. Paul reports he has seen a great many farm friends and is most encouraged by the reception he has received. BY MRS. WES BRADNOCK me August meeting of the ' Auburn Women's Institute was held last week in the Auburn Memorial Community ball with goats present from the St. Helens Women's Institute Branch and the Summerhill and Walkerburn community clubs. The president, Mrs, Len Archambault was in charge and opened the meeting with two poems on Smiles, She welcomed all to the meeting which was opened with the Ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and 0 Canada with Mrs. Robert Phillips at the piano. Mrs. Thomas Haggitt read the minutes and gave the financial statement in the absence of the secretary, Mrs. Donald Haines. The president reported that a new floor was to be laid immediately in the hall kitchen using some new type of linoleum. Mrs, Sidney Lansing reported for the Library committee and stated that the painting was done and was waiting for the electrician to install the electric heating. Mrs. Archambault reported on being to the meeting of the Huronview Auxiliary and stated that a former member was having her 97th birthday so a card was sent signed by all present. Plans were discussed where the members wished to take a bus trip this fall with Ontario Place and Jack Miner's bird santuary being two mentioned. A letter was read re the London area convention to be held in Clinton on September 30 and October 1. The card report was given by Mrs. Robert Phillips in the absence of Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell, convener. The roll call was answered by where members would like to spend their holidays. A piano duet was played by Louise and Cathy Hunking. Miss Louise Lovett played a piano solo-Bridge over Troubled Waters. Miss Cathy Chandler played a paino solo. Mrs. Harold Gaunt, of St. Helens, president of Huron West District of the W.I. gave an interesting report bringing members up to date with news of the W.I. and told how the gold and blue colors and the W4, Badge became a part of the Women's Institute program. A musical contest was conducted by Mrs. Richard Brooks. The winner was Mrs. Elmer Trommer, Court Whist was enjoyed with "the winners being: high lady, Mrs. Gordon Taylor and low lady, Mrs. Harold Gaunt. A delicious smorgosbord lunch was served by Mrs. Lawrence • Plaetzer, Norman McDowell, Mrs. Richard Brooks, Mrs. James Towe and Mrs. Major Youngblut. The prize for the lucky cup went to Miss Minnie Wagner. The -visitors expressed their thanks for the lovely evening. The, Walkerburn Club held a successful bake sale for the support of their foster child in Korea after the meeting. Mrs. Ronald Pentland of North Bay visited last week with her mother Mrs. Charles Straughan at her home in the village here. Mrs. Pauline Mitchell formerly Pauline Kine and Mrs. Elwin MacKenzie the former Doris McKnight, both of Sarnia visited last week with Mrs. Gordon Miller and other friends in the Auburn and Blyth district. Miss Peggy Simmons of Yellow Grass, Sask. visited last Monday with Her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnston, Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Phillips. While in Ontario, she visited relatives at Stoney Creek, London, Seaforth and Blyth. She is the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips who lived at Fordyce before going to Western Canada. Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett is a patient in Clinton hospital where she underwent surgery. Mr. and Mr's. Sam Caldwell and baby moved over the weekend into the home they rented from Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schlichting who recently moved to Goderich. The Federation represents the elementary public school women teachers of Ontario. Presiding was Miss Marion Evans of Toronto, Provincial President. Miss Margaret Hyndman, Q.C., one of Canada's best known women lawyers, chaired the business sessions. Attending from this area were: Mrs. Jean Keith, Granton; Mrs. Ken Williams, Clinton; Mrs. Eula Kellar, Mrs. Florence Kay, Mrs. Robert Doig, all of Seaforth; and Miss Helen Videan, Goderich. Robert Welch, Minister of Education for the Province of Ontario, addressed the Federation's annual dinner on Thursday, August 19. Honorary memberships in the Federation were presented to seven retired teachers, in recognition of their service to education and to the Federation. Those being honoured were former Provincial Presidents, Miss Cora Bailey of Peterborough and Miss Annie McLennan of Sudbury, as well as Mrs. Mabel Altos of Durham,
