New Goderich school trustee apponsted Monday
George Parsons, general manager of
Goderich Elevator and Transit Company, has
been appointed to the Huron County Board
of Education to replace Dr. Barry Deathe of
Goderich, who resigned this summer during
a dispute concerning secondary teachers'
salary negotiations.
E. C. Hill, who was appointed to the
board to replace the other Goderich member
who resigned, Mrs. J. W. Wallace, was
present at Monday evening's board meeting
and was officially sworn into office.
With the appointment of Mr. Parsons, the
board of education in Huron is now back to
full strength --16 members.
Chairman of the committee to appoint
new board members, John Broadfoot,
commented on the calibre of men who have
made themselves available to serve on this
board.
"I am very happy and proud to have had
a small part in it," said Broadfoot.
Hill was welcomed on behalf of all the
board members by the chairman of the
board, Robert Elliott.
In a brief statement, Hill said he is
anxious to assist the board in any way he is
able . . „ "particularly with regard to
education".
It is expected that Parsons will be present
at the hoard's next meeting, September 7.

Midi building boom hits Clinton
Footings for the walls of the new VVil-Dex plant, scheduled for completion in November, were laid
this week. Bruce Williscraft, who will be manager of the Clinton plant, was in town Tuesday to
inspect the work and said he was satisfied the work was proceeding well. If the weather remained
.good until after the cement work was done, he said, there should be no problem finishing the plant
on time.
Recreation Tips
Last year 348 persons
drowned in Ontario, Don't add
to the tragedy. Keep in the
swim. Know and practise the
rules of water safety.
How water treats you and
your family depends on how
you approach water. Approach
it with respect and water can be
your friend. Approach water
carelessly and it can take your
life. Make your choice the safe
one. Keep in the swim with Red
Cross water safety all summer
long.

Bye, Bye Bain
NDP executive
supports suspension
The Executive of the New
Democratic Party of Ontario at
its last regular meeting in
Toronto, August 8, supported
the action of the Huron NDP
Riding Association with regard
to the suspension of Ed Bain.
Mr, Bain has been notified of
the Provincial Executive action
by Gard Brigden, Provincial
Secretary. Under the New
Democratic Party constitution,
Mr. Bain has the right of appeal
if he feels there has been any
injustice in this action. At an
executive meeting in Goderieh,
Sunday night, the Huron ND?
Riding Association completed its
organization of Huron Riding
Or the upciaining Provincial
election with intensive
campaigning to begin Monday,
August 16.
Candidate Paul Carroll, Reeve
of Goderich, advised that the
sign shop will finish the first
2000 lawn signs this week and
all campaign literature has been
printed with the exception of
the final leaflet.
Candidate Carroll has
completed personal calls on
1200 voters to date and
reception has been excellent. He
supports the statement made by
Pat Chefurka, North Middlesex
NDP candidate, who indicated
last week that the rural vote is
switching to ND?.
Carroll expressed concern
about the widespread level of
poverty noted in areas of Huron
Riding and suggested that you
had to get just one concession
road away from the main
arteries to discover the true
living conditions in some of the
rural areas.
