KELLER perfect that man could never duplicate it. The body, my kids know, is nothing smutty and dirty which needs to be covered and hidden from the view of others in the family. We are alike in varying degrees of size and there is nothing more to be said. I don't know whether I could feel comfortable in a nudist colony such as the ones you read about from time to time. I wouldn't like the idea of parading around nude with everyone else. Somehow it just doesn't seem sanitary to me. That's right sanitary. I was discussing our seemingly queer habit of nudity in our home with my husband, who is a very straight-forward. type of guy. "What do you honestly think about it'?" I asked him. I was actually beginning to question the wisdom of it after talking with one reader on the subject. "Well, I look at it like this," said my husband, "It is our house. I think that what we do there is our business. If we can't live the way we are most comfortable then we might just about as well move into a bloody hotel." That's it, I thought. At home we do things naturally. In public, you have consideration for the feelings of Others around you who may not approve of your way of life. And that's the difference between not running for cover in your own home aricl,Ahocking your friends by appearing naked at a patio party. I hope my readers understand, too. Each slice of bread was well buttered to prevent moist fillings from penetrating the bread, Sandwiches of the same kind were wrapped in moisture- vapor-proof wrapping, then overwrapped with foil. When packages of frozen sandwiches are placed in a picnic basket or cooler alongside the fresh fruit and cold drinks, they help keep those items cold. Today I had a telephone conversation with a lady who told me she was shocked to learn via last week's column that members of our family trundled around in the Keller household without any clothes on and she asked, quite bluntly, why we did it. i•-4 Frankly, I was stumped for P. words. I couldn't tell her why we don't get excited about family nudity in our household any more than I could tell her why we always eat three meals a day or wash our hair in the downstairs bathroom rather than upstairs. It is just a habit, IY guess. I hope I didn't leave the impression in last week's effort that we disrobe immediately upon entering the doorway at home after a day at work and at school. That's hardly the way it is at all. However, there is no mad dash for something with which to cover up when you are accidentally confronted by another family member while you are undressed. Why did we begin this life-style? I honestly don't know. It just happened that way, I guess. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, though, that mothers and fathers will be quite open and above board with their children While they are small — say two and three years old — and then suddenly, when the ,kids begin to play in the street and hear a few startling facts of life, they are pushed from their parents' bedroom like unwanted hard-tell salesmen are chased from the verandah. And I don't know whether our method of living is right or wrong, All I can tell you is that our children are not any different than other children, They are not perverted sex Maniacs. Sex doesn't evert enter into the picture, Nudity is not sex , . it is just being without elothet! If anything at all is happening to our children it is that they are quite mature about things which usually set kids to tittering and tee4ieting. There just, isn't any point to it when you have been raised with the idea that the body is a natural thing given to every man and woman regardless of your station in life. From a very early age our children learned that all females were basically alike and so are the males of the species. If there is no secret about the body, there is less need for that driving kind of inquisitiveness Which tells young minds that surely the body differs 'from individual to individual. Our children have learned anatomy the most beautiful way, I think, They have discovered that the human body is more than face, figure and reproductive organs. I hope that our ehildren have found out that the human 'body is God's masterpiece — a machine so rom my window FROZEN SANDWICHES TRAVEL WELL To pack a picnic on short notice the home economists at Canada Agriculture, Ottawa suggest you keep some well-wrapped sandwiches in your freezer.
