For the .first three innings, Clinton only had nine hatters up, then in the fourth, Dave Counter stetted off With a bunt and Don Peterson banged out a single, The two runners were left .stranded when Henry retired three in a TOW with nine straight pitches. Walkerton scored first in the fourth on a run by Henry, but Clinton tied the game up in the fifth when Paul Priestap levels off the ground making mowing easier. The action of the plant capillaries which take up moisture to young roots, is also aided by rolling. The danger of plants drying out is therefore reduced. One rolling in early spring should be sufficient. For a green lawn, water frequently enough to maintain it. A thorough soaking in early morning or early evening is best. Established turf can withstand heat and drought without permanent injury. Although unwatered lawns may be boo* an and dead in appearance, grasses recover quickly with coo, moist fall weather. Mark Nicholson won his fourth game and in going all the way struck out eight and walked seven. Dave Counter and Nicholson scored three runs each, Doug Schoenhals, 2; Robert Harkes, 1; Don Peterson, 1; Steve Steep, 1; Terry Gordner, 2; Pat Phillips, 1; Doug Riehl, 2. A well-managed lawn will improve the appearance of your home. Gardening experts with the Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food recommend a complete fertilizer application to the lawn four times a year: before active growth begins in early spring; in early May; early in June to maintain fertility and ensure establishment of a good turf before the high summer temperatures occur; and in late summer or early tall to supply the plant food necessary for fall growth. Distribute the fertilizer uniformly over dry grass and water thoroughly after application. Frequent light mowing, once or twice a week, is recommended, The mower blades should be sharp and set at a height of 11/2 to 21/2 inches, This will leave relatively few grass clippings on the ground. It's a good idea not to rake up light clippings as they protect the young grass shoots which might Otherwise be damaged by the sudden exposure tO the strong sun, Generally, however, it is best to remove a heavy layer Of grass clippings. Heavy clippings look untidy and can smother and kill the grass. When a lawn is made of bent grass (as golf greens are) clippings must be removed, Rolling the lawn firms up and scored on Mark Nicholsan's first hit of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Terry Gordner scored on Robert Harkes' Mark Nicholsan hit safely again in the seventh with two out, was left at second, base. Walkerton had only one other scoring chance and that came in the third. After a walk and a single with two out, Dave Clynick made a great play at second base to get the third out. The game was by far the toughest game of the year and was Clinton's first defeat. IIENSALL DISTRICT COOPERATIVE IIIRLICEF1ELD tIEN8ALE MUCH 482-9821 /62-2608 236-4893 Around Ontario BY ERNIE FISHER During the next two months I have the enviable job of wandering through Ontario by car and boat visiting people who are enjoying their vacations in the parks and on the waterways. It is amazing how much you find out about what people are thinking and doing, their reaction to the problems of pollution and conservation, their use of equipment such as canoes, boats, tents, and their joys and sorrows of living in the outdoors. It is around a campfire under relaxed conditions or anchored in a peaceful bay that the true thoughts and the interesting anecdotes are told, I will be bringing these stories to you each week during July and August. It is my intention to cover many of the aspects of day-to-day living in the outdoors under the varied conditions that nature hands out. Perhaps some of these ideas and experiences will help to solve your problems and make your outdoor vacation safer and more enjoyable. I might even help you catch a few fish. My travels will take me from southern Ontario, along the shores of the Great Lakes, through the central vacation areas of the province, and north-west into the Kenora district. I am looking forward to a wonderful summer and hope you will enjoy travelling with me, OPP Report RR 1, Clinton were involved in a two car collision resulting in damage to the vehicles.
