Friday, July 9.
The Sale, sponsored by the
Pioneer Park Association, was
run by willing volunteers from
the community, and convened
by Mrs. W. A. Tillman and Mrs.
H. A. Gregory.
Instrumental in organizing
the sale and making it a success
were Miss Kay Reid and Dr.
Herb Kalbfleisch, secretary and
president respectively of the

Mrs. Don Lance last week.
On Sunday July 11, Knox
Presbyterian Church in Bayfield
commenced another phase of its
experimental ministry with a
contemporary worship service at
10:00 a.m.
David McConkey played
guitar and John Waiters was on
drums.
The service was well attended
and response was generally
favourable. The regular worship
service at n a.m, was almost
equally well attended, indicating
it would seem that there is a
need for both types of approach.
The format for the 10 o'clock
and for the 11 o'clock services
will be continued Sunday July
18, with Liza Williams folk
Musician.
Mrs. Joanne Rowan of St.

her work too hard,

gave the benediction at the end
of the service, which was

Student Workers
Environmental Enhancement
Program sent 12 young men to
the Bayfield beaches for a
clean-up program Wednesday
and Thursday of last week.
The greater part of the
workers was assigned to the
Main Beach, but five of them
worked on the pier area of the
south shore of the river, picking
up bottles and cans and burning
paper, garbage, and large pieces
of wood.
These five found mixed
reactions to their job on the part
of the public. Most found the
task a necessary and
commendable one, but there
were some complaints to the
effect that Hayfield doesn't need
outsiders picking up after them.
Maybe it wouldn't, if
Bay fielders, or at least
beach-goers, would pick up after
themselves, argue the boys.
"People just don't care," says
Louis Hartman, Another added,
"They think we're trying to take
work away from them."
A truck arrived, and the
foreman, Bruce Smith, came to
see how the work was going. The
boys had been working hard,
and were glad to take time off to
report and Mrs. Maggie Campbell
was elected to the office of
secretary for the new term. The
DDP Mrs. Bell announced the
installation dates as follows:
Clinton, Oct. 4; Hensall, Oct. 6;
Brussels, Oct. 12; Goderich, Oct.
19; Exeter, Oct. 20 and
Seaforth, Nov. 8,
Greetings were extended by
Mrs. Margaret Bowra, P,D.D.P.
of Goderich and Mrs. Hodgins

the meeting when readings were
given by Mrs. I'apple, Seaforth;
Mrs, Amelia Straughan,
Goderieh and Mrs. Hazel
Corbett, Hensall, Mrs. Mary

"Of all the summer jobs I've
had, though, I like this best,"
said Stan Rollins. He explained
that though the work was
physically taxing, it was good to
be outdoors, and especially since
the work was an attempt to
better the environment.
It was a hot day, and a water
jub filled with lemonade stood
ready. The boys picked up their
tools and hard-hats, and got
back to work. They will be
spending the rest of the summer
moving around the Ausable
River Conservation area,
performing similar jobs.
