Mrs, McClure reported on the Tile
Drainage Seminar which she attended in
Orangeville on June 30, She said that while
the provincial government is considering Bill
75, the Tile Drainage Act of 1971,
landowners wanting the drainage loans will
have to wait,
Council members decided to inform any
landowner waiting on such a loan of the
situation, Until this bill has been proclaimed
and the clerks of the townships are able to
secure the new forms, the government will
not be paying out money for any loans.
The new act states that council must pass
a borrowing by-law which has to be
approved by the Ontario Municipal Board
before any tile drainage loans can be made.
Mrs. McClure said the interest rate for the
loans will remain at four percent.

Get ready-
the cherries
are co m in g
Sweet cherries lead the parade
of delicious Ontario tree fruits.
They are available only during
July. The locally grown,
tree-ripened cherries have the
best flavor, color and sweetness.
Careful selection and proper
storage will ensure retention of
their top quality.
Fully ripe cherries are firm,
shiny, plump and well colored.
These have the best flavor.
Avoid those with brown spots
and blemishes as their flavor and
storage life is not as good.
The storage life of sweet
cherries averages three to four
days in the refrigerator. Store in
a perforated plastic bag or
covered container. If you must
wash them before storing, be
sure they are well dried. It is
best to wash just before using.
Since stemless cherries do not
keep as long as those with stems,
use them first, advise food
specialists at the Ontario Food
Council, Ontario Department of
Agriculture and Food.
