Varna BY FRED McCLYMONT Mr. and Mrs, Orville Blake of Holmesville celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reid, on Thursday evening, June 24. Thirty-five relatives attended the dinner party. Those attending were from Clinton, Seaforth, Hohnesville, Napanee, Goderich, Brucefield and Varna, Mr. Floyd McAsh of Hamilton is spending a few days at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John MeAeh. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was administered in the United Church last Sunday with Rev. John Huether of Zurich in charge of the service, The flowers in the church were placed by the Webber family in memory of their son, Fred Webber. Mr. and Mrs. Norman, returned missionaries from Bolivia, will speak in Goshen United* Church on Sunday evening, July 11, at 8 p.m. HEATHER REID Heather Cameron Reid, daughter of Fit, Lt, (Ret'd) and Mrs. Thomas W. Reid, London Road, Kippen, Ontario, is a recent graduate of Woodstock General Hospital School of Nursing. Miss Reid is a former graduate of South Huron District High School, Exeter, Ontario. VERA LYON Vera Elinor Lyon completed a two-year course at the School for Graduate Nurses at McGill University and at Convocation recently held in Montreal was granted the degree of Bachelor of Nursing. She is the daughter of Stanley Lyon, Blyth, graduated from C.D.C.I. and Victoria Hospital in London and has worked in hospitals in Hazeiton and Queen Charlotte Islands, B.C. At present, she is with the Board of World Mission of the United Church of Canada and will be returning to teach nursing students in Kenya in East Africa. Mts. Wayne lioegy and Scott of London spent the past week with her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Dale and Cheryl. Rhonda, Jeffrey and Scott McMichael of Goderich spent a few days the past week with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ken Thompson and Joan. Mr. and Mrs. Prank Van der Molars, Paul, Mark and Margie of Oakville spent the weekend with Mrs, W. L. Whyte, Tam, Sill and Margie and Mr. Harold Whyte. Paul and Mark remained for holidays for this 'week. Mrs. Pat Brietbarth end Karen, Sharon and Bob Thompson spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs, Terrence Hunter of Colborne Township. Mrs. Thelma firotriley of Kitchener spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. William Dale and Cheryl. The Constance Paareetere held a church service at the Lofidesboro United Church and picnic at the home of Rev. MacDonald on Sunday with a good attendance. Mr. and Mts. Bob Woods, Debbie and Michele of Ganatioque are spending this week's holidays with Mr.. and Mrs. Prank Ailey. Mr. John Whyte and Jeffrey of Oshawa visited on Monday at the Whyte home. Jeffrey remained to spend this week for holidays. BRIDAL, $I101613 Mrs. Donald Haines was hostess to a surprise bridal 'shower for Mrs, William Clark (nee Frances Houston) on her lawn last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson welcomed all and an advertisement contest was conducted by Miss Sharon Collins and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. Mrs. Sanderson had a flower contest and Mrs. Haines a button guessing contest, Mrs, Donald Haines escorted Mrs. Clark to a decorated chair and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock pinned a corsage on her. Mrs. Ed Davies read the address of congratulations and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt presented her with a purse of money,. Other gifts in the wishing well were also presented, Mrs„ Clark thanked her neighbours and friends for the gifts. Over 60 ladies and children attended. Lunch was served by members of the Presbyterian W.M.S. group assisted by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. Miss Erma Pfeffer, Milton Pfeffer, Mr. and Mrs, Stanley Fenton (nee Flo Pfeffer) and Mrs. R. Hopkinson (formerly Myrtle Pfeffer), all of Kitchener, called on friends in the village recently. Howard Fowler of Goderich visited last week one day with Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Allen. Ed Daer is recuperating at his home after surgery on his hand in a London hospital. Mrs. Charles Straughan of Blyth and her daughter, Mrs. Rqnald Pentland of North Bay, are holidaying at their home here. ' We are pleased to see Norman McDowell home following surgery in Goderich hospital. Mr. and Mrs. George Robb of London spent the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson. Miss Gail Miller of Toronto spent the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller. Mrs. Mary Johnston has returned to Goderich to her daughter's, Mrs. Donald Campbell, Mr, Campbell and family, after visiting with her brother, Frank Raithby, Mrs. Raithby and John Raithby. The family of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Beadle held a reunion in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall on Sunday afternoon, June 27, when relatives visited during the afternoon. A smorgasbord luncheon was served. Relatives were present from Detroit, St. Clair Shores and Almonte, Michigan; Kitchener, London, St. Catharines, Zurich, Goderich, Wieghart, Belgrave, Blyth, showered Betimiller and Auburn. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan MacKay arrived in the village last weekend from Sault. Ste, Marie. Mr. MacKay has now retired from his career of teaching at the Sault Ste. Marie Secondary School and the couple will make their home in the village. Mrs, Keith Robinson and daughter Kimberley of Toronto spent the weekend with her father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson. Congratulations to Gordon Miller on his being appointed foreman of the Huron County Roads, succeeding Frank Riley, who is retired as of July 1. George Collins, Miss Sharon Collins and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock attended the funeral of the former's mother, Mrs. Arthur Collins, at Kincardine last Tuesday. Also attending was John Stadleman of Blyth and Miss Jackie Collinson of Metall. Albert Hunking of ' Detroit and Stewart Ament of Blyth visited one evening last week with Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Allen.
