Response still light for Conestoga courses
students including adults who were
interested in re-training for new jobs or
intensifying their skills in their present
fields.
These courses range through those
approved by the Canada Manpower Training
Plan to training in business and industry,
management development, effective
supervision in manufacturing, human
relations, marketing for the tourist industry
and labor relations.
A Certified Visiting Homemaker course is
already underway with one class presently in
session and another class planned for later
this year.
BY SHIRLEY J. KELLER
Spence Cummings, Huron County
Development officer, told members of
Huron County Council that Conestoga
College of Applied Arts and Technology has
planned courses for the educational
development for Huron County for the
coming year, but that to date there are only
about 100 applications on file from
students.
"They are quite willing to go ahead with
courses but they have no students," said
Cummings.
Cummings reported that about 15 courses
could be made available to Huron County
Council learned that an advertising
campaign to inform people in Huron exactly
what courses are available to them will be
launched.
Referring to CFB Clinton and the
progress the committee has had in locating
an alternative facility there, Cummings said
the sivation remains unchanged until the
base "is turned over to somdbody".
"The Ontario government officials are
very active in meetings with the Federal
government," said Cummings, "and I would
hope to hear something in the very near
future."
