Reports mixed at bass
fishing opening
BY ERIC EARL
The bass fishing season opened this past weekend and the reports
I had were mixed.
Jack Wilkins, Dr. Paul Walden and son Peter caught their omit of
fine bass on Saturday morning. Saturday evening Joe Brandon and
caught five bass, but they were very small,
Fred Weston, Charlie Parker and Ian Stewart didn't have any luck
on Saturday afternoon, but I understand that Bud Sturgeon caught a
fine mess of bass. Bud, like his father Jack, always seems to know
how and where to fish.
Jack Wilkins and I tried our luck on Sunday afternoon, but all we
got was a sunburn.
A few perch have been caught off the south pier and three or four
lucky fishermen caught rainbow trout out there in the past week.
I would appreciate hearing of any good catches of fish in the
Bayfield river. •
On Sunday Mr, and Mrs. Jack Fraser entertained at a family
picnic in honour of Mr. and Mrs. J. Fraser Jr., Ricky, Elizabeth and
Michelle of Vancouver, B.C., who are spending two weeks vacation
in Bayfield and London.
Those present at the picnic were Mr. and Mrs: W; C. Parker, Kim
and Charlie of London; Mr, and Mrs. Robert Parker, Pam, Jack and
David of Dorchester; and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Parker of Bayfield.
On Saturday, Mr, and Mrs. J. Fraser visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Guilin at Farmington, Mich.
Miss Kathy Stevenson of London, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs,
Eric Earl, has been visiting with us for the past two weeks. Its been
quite a treat having two gals around the house to wait on me.
Visitors at the Ronethroy cottage over the weekend were:
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Peckham and son, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. L.
Higgins and family, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. A. Isaacs and daughter,
Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mitchell, London; Mr. and Mrs. A.
Allen and family, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barlow and family,
Grosse Point, Mich.;' and Mrs. Barlow's sister, Mrs. Albert Wareing,
and family of Scottsdale, Arizona, visited with the Barlows.
Last week a picture of Joe Mayman, the new President of the
Bayfield Lions Club, was supposed to appear in this column, but a
picture of LIZA WILLIAMS turned up in its place, then to add to
the confusion the name under the picture of LIZA came out PAT •
NAYMAN.
We are running the picture of JOE MAYMAN again this week .. .
. I hope the caption doesn't read JOE NAMATH, because I don't
think President Joe knows anything about football,

owned a sawmill on the north
side of the river, where there are
cottages now. Miss Jean Mustard
is a professor of 'Biology at the
University of Miami, and Miss
Isabel Mustard is a consultant in
hospital architecture. They are
en route, at present, to Nova
Scotia, and stopped in Bayfield
because "it's home to us." May
ail of Bayfield's children be so
loyal!
