special installation meeting, a
team from Mitchell, consisting
of Chairman, W. Murphy, and
members, Cliff Norman, Mrs.
Una McDougall, Jim Mabb, Fred

and Mrs. Verna Hube, very ably
assisted by Sgt.-At-Arms, Alex
Ellens, installed the new officers
and executive for Branch 140
and the Ladies' Auxiliary.
The meeting was opened by
Past President, Black, and,
although there was a good
crowd, members were noticable
by-their absence.
Guests for the evening were
District Commander, Rollie
Russell of Galt; Past District
Commander, AI Nicholson of
Egmondville; Zone Commander,
Ted Elliott of Brussels; Deputy
Zone Commander, Harold
Chambers of Goderich; Zone
Commander, Cec Rickert of
Galt; District Service Officer, F.
Hammer of Waterloo; and the
Secretary of Branch 530
Waterloo, Mrs. Ivy Hammer.
A special guest at the
installation was Nancy
MacDonald, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank MacDonald, Erie St.,
Clinton. Nancy advanced to the
District level in the Legion
sponsored Public Speaking
Contest last winter in the senior
class of the public school
division and gave the Branch a
sample of her capabilities by
repeating her speech. The topic
"Cerebral Palsy And A Friend
Anne" was very well received by
all present.
How such a young girl can get
up in front of so many and do so
well is something the "old
sweats" really appreciate.
Congratulations were given and a
small token of a pen and pencil
set was presented by Past
President, Black. Good going

May 25 was a gala night for
the officers and members of
Huron Lodge, No. 377, when
guests from St. Marys, Forest,
Seaforth, Mitchell, Woodham,
Toronto arid Murphy Lodge,
710, Clinton, joined in the 50th
anniversary celebration.
A delicious turkey dinner was
served by Mrs. Elliott's group of
U.C.W. in the Ontario Street
Church Hall.
The toast to the Queen was
proposed by Mr. Tom Deeves,
Clinton, after the national
anthem. Rev. Wonfor led in the
Grace.
The guest of honour, Mrs.
McKnight of Toronto, was
presented with a corsage of red
roses.

at Freeland, Michigan.
Mrs. V. Hargreaves and Mrs.
Melvin Graham attended the
funeral of Mrs. Hargreaves'
uncle, Mr. Thomas Sheldon.
Mrs. Elsie Forrest fell and
fractured a bone in her hand.

The evening closed in a social

that had been served. Mrs.
Elliott spoke briefly in reply.
The members and guests then
went to the Lodge Room where
the regular meeting was held.
Receiving grand lodge honors
were: Most Worshipful Past
Grand Mistress of Ontario West,
Sis. Margaret McKnight; Right
Worshipful Sir Knight, Oliver
Jacques, Past Master of Ontario
West; Past Master of Lambton
County of Orange and Mack,
Bro. C. Zimmerman.
During the evening, Mrs.
Pickard presented Mrs.
McKnight with a gift on behalf
of lodges present.
Congratulations and greetings
were extended front all lodges
present.
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the.
Royal Canadian Legion held
their final meeting before
September on Monday, June 7,
with the retiring President, Mrs.
Harold Black, in the chair.
Motions were made to raise
the history bursary, which the
Auxiliary presents to a deserving
student, from $50 to $75, and
to donate $500 to the Legion
men towards repairing drainage
around Legion Hall,
A bowling team, composed of
Marg Thorndyke, Gerry Harris,
Wonnetta Holland, Elsie Murrell,
Bessie Black and Marion
Priseille, recently won second
prize at a tournament held at
Seaforth,
Elsie Murrell won
share-the-wealth and Helen
The regular monthly meeting
of the Ladies Conservation Club
took place at the beautiful home
of Mrs, Laura Emmerson, Huron
Road, in the form of a pot luck
supper, with 18 answering the
roll call and one visitor present.
The President, Mrs. Bessie
Bissett chaired the committee.
The minutes of the last meeting
were read by the secretary Mrs.
Marg Rumball. They were
approved and carried by Mrs.
Muriel Buyers, and seconded by
Mrs. Marg Carter.
The treasurer's report was
then read by Mrs. Marg
Reynolds. This report was then
moved and carried by Mrs. Jean
At the close of lodge the
draws were made — prizes going
to:
First, $25, Jim Riddell, R. R.
3, Clinton; second, $15, Debby
Pickard, R. It. 4, Clinton; anti
third, $10, Mr. Tom O.Connell,
Clinton.
The birthday gifts were won
by Mrs. Garrett, Bayfield; Mrs.
Tom O.Connell, Clinton; Mrs. M.
McKnight, Toronto; Mrs. John
Oldfield, Seaforth; and Mrs.
Mildred Mills, St. Marys.
The evening was brought to a
close with serving of birthday
cake, ice cream, tea and coffee.

President, Bessie Black,
congratulated the newly-elected
executive and thanked the
members for their fine help and
co-operation during her term of
office.
Frances Porter was thanked
and congratulated for her work
in designing the Auxiliary float,
which captured first prize in the
parade on Spring Fair.
A most generous gift of a fine
gavel was presented to the
Auxiliary by Past President,
Helen Bisback. This has been
needed by the Auxiliary for
years, and was very much
appreciated.
Lunch was served following
the meeting.

reported 23 paid up members.
During the business portion of
the meeting, the bus trip was
planned, The destination set
upon was "Ontario Place," The
bus is to leave the club house at
8 a.m. on July 17. There will be
a few seats available for this trip.

Draw tickets were sold by
Muriel Buyers and the draw was
won by Mrs. Emmerson.
