Colts drop first game 3-2
to Thorndale, defeat St. Marys

Thorndale picked up an

catcher Butch Fleet. Clinton tied
it up in the fourth on a base hit
by Cam Colquhoun, a ground

House League action with a final
7 — 2 win over the Twins. Pat
Phillips gave up only four hits to
earn the victory. Scoring for the

On Tuesday, June 1, Teams 3
and 4 battled out a hard-hitting
game.
For Team 4 there were two
home runs each by Pat Kay and
Clinton giving up five hits
including a two-run homer by
Muriel in the fifth inning which
gave them the winning nips.
Clinton picked up ,eight hits off
winning pitcher Armstrong.
On Wednesday night the
Colts played to a 6.6 tie picking
up only seven hits leaving nine
men on base. Stew Mustard and
Don Barttiff combined pitching
duties giving up 10 hits, St,
MacDonald, Neil Colquhoun,
Gary Jordan and Steve Jones.
Paul "Moses" Priestap picked
up a double and a single for the
two runs by the Twins.
In games played last week the
Twins bombed the Orioles 12 —
Kathy Johnson and one by Carol
Colquhoun.
For Team 3 there were one
each by Betty Heynesbergen,
Thereasa Jordan and Juelie
Howse. In the end Team 4 won
by a score of 26-25.

On Friday night in Clinton
the Colts defeated St. Marys
12-0 in a game called after six
innings.
Clinton's top hitters were
Stew Mustard and Rick Schilbe
with two hits each. Ed Daer
pitched the victory giving up
four hits. The Colts play Friday
night in Dashwood at 8 p.m.
4. For the Twins Danny Proctor
(1), John Hart (2), Paul Priestap
(3), Terry Gordner (2), Doug
Riehl (1), Rick Blake (1), Bruce
Sauder (1) and Richard Carter
(1), scored. Orioles runs were by
Robert Harkes, Mark Nicholson,
Doug Schoenhals and Paul Wise.
The other weekend game found
league leadint Tigers mauling the
Yankees 9 — 3.
Tigers scores were by Steve
Steep (2), Paul Van Dam (2),
David Archibald (1), Daryl
MacDonald, Gary Jordan, Vic
Falconer and John Schotts.
Yankees runs were by David
Clynick, David Counter and
Mike Howard.
Playoffs for Clinton
News-Record Trophy will be
held Wednesday, •June 16 with
Game 1 at 4:30 between the
Twins and Yankees and Game 2
at 6:30 with the Tigers vs,
Orioles. The Championship will
be played Monday, June 21 and
Wednesday, June 23.
Ryan's Raiders capped off a
successful season of the Clinton
Minor Basketball League Friday
night when they defeated Jerry's
Jinx 22-9 for the league
championship.
The championship game
climaxed the two-day
championship tournament which
saw all six teams in the league
taking part.
Although they had to play
the Jinx in the finals, the hardest
battle for the Raiders came in
the semi-finals when they
knocked off the heavily
favoured Town Criers 14-9.
Geoff Gibb led the Raiders in
the big win with five points.
Dean Ryan scored four points,
Frank Flynn and Jack Cook
scored two each and Tim Jewson
scored a single point.
Brian White who had led the
Town Criers all season scored all
nine points.
White scored 10 points to
lead the Town Criers into the
semi-finals with a win over the
Crying Charlies 19-2 in the
quarter-final. Bill Irwin, Greg
Holmes, John Peckitt and Jamie
Scott scored two points each.
Paul Middleton scored the only
basket for the Charlies.
The Raiders defeated
Herman's Heroes 37-8 in their
quarter-final match. Tim Jewson
and Dean Ryan each scored 12
points. Geoff Gibb scored seven
points, Steve Gibbings, four, and
Frank Flynn, two.
Allan Lavis scored four points
for Herman's Heroes and Steve
Cook scored three. Jim
Shropshall scored a single point.
Jerry's Jinx and ' Barry's
Rasketeers had a by into the
semi-finals and the Jinx
surprised the Basketeers with a
22-17 win. Jerry Steegstra was
the big man for the winners,
rebounding well and scoring
seven points. Greg Butler's hot
outside shooting counted six
points. Dan Campbell scored
four points, Tony Bird, three,
and Steve McPherson, two.
Barry Welch topped the
Basketeers with seven points,
Paul Garrow had six and Kim
liodgins and Merlin White soared
two points each, The Basketeers
were left shorhanded when Kim
Hodgins fouled out with more
than two minutes left.
In the finals, Neil Colquhoun
had the hot hand for the
Raiders, scoring seven points,
and Dean Ryan also had seven.
Tim Jewson, who played an
excellent game, rebounding well
and covering the Jinx most
dangerous man, Jerry Steegstra,
scored six points. Steve Gibbings
scored two points,
Steegstra, despite the good
checking of Jewson, scored five
points to top his team's scoring.
Dan Campbell and Greg Butler
each scored two points.
ALL—STAR GAME
Despite the fact that the
Central Huron Secondary School
Midgets controlled the play most
of the time, the Minor League
All-stars made a good
impression, losing 1974 in the
All-star game.
The Midgets may be a little
rusty from inaction recently, but
the fact still remained, they had
a great deal more height,
experience and had played
together for an entire season.
The All-stars had never played
together before and their only
real experience came in the last
six weeks of basketball action.
Richard Welch led the
winners with six pohits and R.
Mair, three. Kevin Dutot, Jim
Amsing, D. MacDonald, R.
McAuley and Paul Herman
scored two points each,
Jerry Steegstra scored three
points for the All-stars and Dean
Ryan scored one.
Players chosed to the All-star
team were Brian White, Jerry
Steegstra, Paul Middleton, Bill
Irwin, Dean Ryan, Paul Garrow,
Sete Cook, Jamie Thompson and
Greg Butler. Also playing on the
team were Tim Jewson, Steve
Gibbings, Tony Bird, Geoff Gibb
and Neil Colquhoun.
Brad Morgan, Dean
MacDonald, David Clifford and
Bob Finney each scored two
runs as the Cards defeated the
Expos 12-8 last week.
Scoring single runs for the
winners were Bobby Hart, Jeff
Ball, Mike Cooper and Paul
Stanley.
Joe McMahon scored two
runs for the Expos and singles
came from Chris Middleton, Ian
Fleming, Paul Taylor, Mark Bell,
Wayne Tideswell and Kerry
Colquhoun.
The Giants beat the Reds
11-8. Steve Blair, Larry Riehl
and Paul Castle scored two runs
each and singles came from Rick
Gordner, Tony Denomme, Ken
Hart, Vincent Bucher and Billy
Mitchell. Wayne Ducharme, Greg
Wise, Danny Holmes, Pat
Jordan, Jamie Craig, Steve Elder,
Robbie Blake and Frank Ellerby
scored for the Reds.

Power Squadron
holds Sail
Past Sunday
Hundreds of spectators are
expected to view the third
annual Sail Past in Goderich
Harbour on Sunday afternoon,
June 20.
The event will be conducted
by members of Goderich Power
Squadron, one of 115 units of
Canadian Power Squadrons, the
nationwide Safe-boating
organization.
Roy P. Nield, Sarnia, Western
Ontario District Commander,
will take the salute, with
Commander E. B. Menzies, at 2
p.m. from the south pier. Boats
Will be "dressed" and a ptize will
be awarded for the
best-decorated boat. The
competition it open to all
beaten whether members or
not.
The public is invited free to
view the Sail Past, and the sail
and power boat races scheduled
to follow,
