The award is given to the athlete in the conference who most displays leadership, sportsmanship, co-operation within his school and is not an under-achiever in his academic studies. His coach, Jack Foot said "He has real athletic ability. He's a team leader...a take charge guy." Frank has a long line of accomplishments. He was top scorer in the conference in his second year of junior basketball, an allster in both basketball and football in 1967.68 and WOSSA finalist in the 1.20-yard hurdles; Beal's senior athlete of the year in 1967.68; an Mister and most valuable player on the Beal basketball team in 1968-69; co-winner of the same award in 1969.70; most valuable player at the annual Purple and White basketball tournament and member of the allstar team in 1969-70; winner of the same two honours in 1970-71 and was an allstar in football this past year. He has had such a fabulous athletic record at his school that a trophy has been named After him and another player to be awarded to the outstanding athlete at the school over five years of attendance, Fittingly enough, Frank was co-winner of the award this year. Quarter finals begin at 7 p.m. tonight at the gym at Central Huron Secondary School. Ryan's Raiders will play. Herman's Heroes and Crying Charlies will play Town Criers. In the semi-finals, to follow immediately after the completion of these games, Barry's Basketeers and Team 8, who won a buy into the semi-finals, will play off and the winners in the quarter final games will play off. Belgrave had a former Clinton player Kevin Carter on the mound and he held Clinton to seven hits, For Clinton Mark Nicholson made his first start, allowing five hits while striking out 16. In the hitting Nicholson also was the power with a triple in the fourth and single in the sixth. Neil Colquhoun picked up his eighth and ninth hit with his two singles. Both he and Nicholson scored two runs apiece. In final action last week, Town Criers came up with a narrow 10-6 win over Ryan's Raiders in a Thursday night game. Brian White's five points led the Criers and Peter Nesbitt had three and Jamie Scott two. Tim Jewson had four points for the Raiders and Steve Gibbings had two. Paul Middleton scored eight points to lead Crying Charlies to a 10-6 win over Jerry's Jinx. Gord Milian had the other two points, Dan Campbell had two points and Jerry Steegstra four for the Jinx, third win In the sixth Counter, Colquhoun and Nicholson scored to give Clinton a good lead. In the seventh Terry Gordner led off with a double then scored his second run by stealing home on a passed bail. Third baseman Paul Priestap had a double play in the third when he caught a hot liner and tagged third base forcing the base runner. Attending the dinner were; Christine Hartley, most outstanding senior girl athlete; Janet Graham, most outstanding junior girl; Ron Wise, overall Huron-Perth junior champion; Bill Cantelon, co-winner of the outstanding junior boy award; R, J. Homuth, principal of CHSS; Gerry Lobb, co-winner of the junior boy award; Ken Clynick, coach; Dr. Powell, guest speaker at the dinner from the University of Guelph; Gord Levis, outstanding senior boy; and Evelyn Benjamins, individual winner of the senior WOSSA cross country race, Orioles tie for first place in Peewee houseleague scored the runs, Larry Riehl (2), Steven Blair (2), Paul Castle, Rick Gordner, K. Colquhoun, Tony Denomme and Mark McLain were the Giant scorers. The Reds finally won a game with a 12.11 win over the Cards in a well-played game by both clubs. For the Reds, Robbie Blake (2), Steve Elder (2), Pat Jordan (2), David Stephenson (2), Greg Wise, Danny Holmes and Rick Ducharme scored. Brad Morgan scored three times for the Cards and Brian Pickard, Paul Stanley, Michael Cooper had two each. John Wood and Gordon Finrey had one run each. Basketball tournament starts tonight at CHSS
