Salverda, Misses Ida, Jean and Gladys Lieper • and Rev, McDonald attended the Winthrop Thankoffering held in Winthrop United Church on Wednesday evening June 2. Rev. McDonald was guest speaker. Mr. Jeffrey Shaddick of Kitchener spent weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick and Lloy. Miss Dorothy Little of Toronto spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Townsend and Aunt Mrs. Bonthom. Rev. McDonald was Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. William Hewitt of Ethel. Miss Barbara Burns of London with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Burns. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wall of Kincardine visited on Sunday with her Aunts Mrs. Jewel, Cowan and Mrs, Mary Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cowan and Gregory of Guelph with his mother Mrs. Jewell, Cowan. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Alexander are visiting their son Jim and wife of Orchard Park, N.Y. Marianne Merrill and George Colelongh were married June 8, 1946 in Ebenezer United Church, Goderich Township by the late Reverend C. Tavener, A bounteous smorgasbord supper was served to guests who attended from Toronto, London, Mitchell and the surrounding area. * * Kenneth Harrison, who holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto, and is a member of the teaching staff of the Royal Conservatory of Music, will be in Clinton ' June 14 to conduct Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. * * Mr. Jack Fuicher of the Huron School of Driving tells us that the top girl and boy student drivers of the High School learn-to-drive program, were Jeanette Riley and Douglas Wise. Doug receives a C.I.A. plaque because he was the best of all the student drivers. Both Jeanette and Doug won a free flying lesson, donated by Galbraith TV and Lawson & Wise Insurance, Mr, Al Galbraith being a flying instructor at Stratford Flying Club. * * * The Kinsmen Club of Clinton is volunteering to help any of the Senior Citizens who might need assistance when they move BY FRED McCLYMONT The United Church Women held their June meeting last Thursday evening with 27 ladies present. Pepper Spent last weekend at Chesley Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Neale, London visited a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Mac Wilson. Mr. and Mrs, A. Trommelen Were visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. Veilleux for a few days as the Veilleux's were looking for a new location in St. Jean, Quebec. Mrs. John IC Cornish received word that her sister-in-law Mrs. John Hill had died in Moose Jaw: She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Don Francis and a Son Dr. Morris Hill, Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. A. 11 Smith, Bluevale, spent Sunday with Mr. Stnith's sister, Mrs. H. Berry, Decoration day will be held at Bairds Cemetery on June 20. Mrs. George Henderson and Mrs. Wm. Holland spent Monday with Mrs. Henderson's sister at Teeswater, Rev, and Mrs. Chas. Cox, into the new apartments. Wood and Dr, and Mrs. K. L. Colquhoun attended the ceremony at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Toronto on June 5 when Bruce Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs, Frank Elliott, Blyth graduated as Doctor of Chiropractic. * * * Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Derwin Carter during the past week were their daughter ,- and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs, W. Mewhort, Vancouver Island, B.C. They had been attending a medical reunion in Toronto. * * * Christine Hartley received a further honour this week, when* she was presented with her second major letter, This is presented for scholastic standing and particilktion in school activities and Christine is the only girl to have received her second major in the last two years from Central Huron Secondary School. * The directors of the Clinton Spring Fair would like to thank all those who so generously gave • of their time and helped to make this one of the best fairs ever. Group Two served lunch, The U.C.W. thankoffering service will be held next Sunday evening June 13 at 8 p.m. with Mrs. Eric Luther of Hensall as guest speaker and special music by Mr. and Mrs. Luther. The ladies from Goshen, Brucefield and Kippen are all invited to this service. The annual Webster picnic will be held at Harbour Park, Goderich on Sunday, June 20. The London office of the Canadian Bible Society have received $682 from residents of Varna and credited it to the Varna and Goshen Bible Society. Mrs. Flora Dowson returned home last Week after a trip to the British Isles. Mrs. John Aldington of Clinton visited friends here over the weekend. Mr. Roy Keys has sold his farm on the Babylon line to Mr. Allan Hayter. Junior boys choir under the leadership of Mrs. Harry Lear, church organist, was much enjoyed. Mrs. Arnold Riley visited on Sunday with Mrs, Ron Hugill a patient in Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. A number from Hullett lodge, AF and AM attended the North Huron District masonic service at Teeswater on Sunday evening. Mrs. Wilmer Howatt spent a few days last week with her _Masan President, Mrs. E. R. Davis presided for the June meeting of Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary Tuesday June 1. Ten dollars was donated to the Salvation Army, A letter of appreciation was read from the Crippled Childrens Centre, London, for the gift of two wheel chairs for the crippled children which were purchased from a draw for an Easter basket of grocercies proceeds amounted to $183.00. Plaques will be placed on the chairs indicating the donors. In charge of this project was Mrs. Clarence Reid. Three members of the executive committee were installed by the president. The group will cater to a banquet June 9, The president presented a gift to Mrs. Harry Horton who has held the position of Sgt. At Arms for 21 years but is unable to continue in this role owing to ill health. Past President Mrs. Carnet Allan presented. a gift to Mrs. Ralph Fitzpatrick who is' leaving this area with her, husband and family for the West. In a special draw Mrs. Garnet Allan was the winner. Sports Officer Mrs. Clarence Reid was in charge. Mrs, Howard Smale won the mystery prize, Mrs. W. H. Bell, the guessing prize, and Mrs. Fitzpatrick the attendance prize. What's new at Haronvietv The residents program of old time music dancing and sing song was held in the Auditorium on Monday afternoon With music by the Huronview orchestra. Tea and cookies were served by the ladies, .A group of entertainers from Blyth provided the program for Thursday Family Night arranged by Mr. Jim Lawrie, A good crowd of residents along with several of their relatives enjoyed the program which included instrumentals, Mrs. Grace Brown was pianist and Wayne McClinchey and Steven Walsh played guitars. Angela Duttman played accordion, and there were vocal, numbers by Mrs. Wittich, a trio by Lorie, Charlene and Francis Campbell and Annie Thalin and Hilly Van Amersfoort sang a duet. Mrs. Mary Taylor thanked the group in behalf of the residents. The weather was ideal for the Sunday spring drive sponsored by the United Church Men of Exeter. Although there was not enough cars for everyone, Mr. Clarence Down organizer of the drive assures us that plans will be made for those to go sometime real soon. daughter Mr. and Mrs. Jac Hodgert and family of Kirkston, Mr. Jim McCool is a patient in Clinton Hospital.
