BLACKER: Passed away on
Saturday, May 29, 1971, Mrs,
Ernest Blacker (formerly Annie
Cook), widow of the late Ernest
Thomas Blacker, of Clinton, in
her 92nd year. Survivors are a
son Ernest A. Blacker of
Uxbridge, and a daughter, Miss
Margaret Blacker of Toronto. A
son, William predeceased her in
1969. The funeral was held at
Ball funeral Home on Tuesday,
June 1 with interment in Clinton
Cemetery.

She spoke for a few minutes
on the aims and objectives of the
W.I., stating that it was an
educational organisation and
everyone should strive to keep it
going in the local communities
at it keeps the small community
together to work for Rothe and
Country.
Mrs. Zoeller gave an
interesting and enthusiastic
message On the work of P.W.1.0.
and thanked the Members tot
their support of the expansion
of MacDonald Hall at the
Guelph University, the 75th
project purchase of the Erland
Lee Homestead at Stoney Creek
where the first documents Were
signed for the organization of
this world-wide,group,
Associated Countrywomen Of
the world,
She spoke of the change in
times since 1897 when a need
for a higher standard ,of living
was felt in every community.
She stated that at one time,
convenience foods were frowned
upon but noware very essential
to the housewife. As she said the
old-timer used to think out her
meals, now she thaws out her
meals. She stated that 18
percent of the fond dollar is
spent on eating out so wh have
to approach this change and
meet it, She urged all to be
united in the Branch District
Area Provincial and Canadian
levels of the Women's Institutes.
Mrs. Cecil Elliott of Clinton
thanked Mrs. Zoeller for her
infonriative address.

Education, by Mrs. William

Mrs. Keith Webster, Blyth.
The district curator, Mrs. Tait
Clark gave a report of the
Tweedsinuir histories and spoke
of the history books which were
on display. She stated that they
are in demand from students
who are researching records.
A quartette composed of Mrs.
Glen Coultes, Mrs. Bill Coultes,
Mrs, Stanley Hopper and Mrs.
George Procter, all of Beigrave
sang two numbers—"This Land
of Ours and ,"Let there be
peace", accompanied by Mrs.
Norman Coultes.
The collection was taken by
the Tiger Dunlop branch and
Mrs. Wilfred Colclough of
Clinton gave the report of the
Huronview Auxiliary, urging all
branches to take part in the
birthday parties and to come
and help quilt.
The convener of the
nominating committee, Mrs.
Amber Popp of Clinton gave her
report and the officers were
installed by Mrs. Coulthard. It
was decided to again sponsor the
Korean child and an invitation
to Wingham for the 1972 district
annual was accepted, Mrs.
Harold Gaunt, the new president
thanked everyone for the
honour bestowed upon her and
Mrs. W. Gourley thanked Mrs.
Straughan for her leadership the
past two years. Mrs. Bert Mills of
Goderich extended courtesies.
Mrs. H. Johnston presided for
the afternoon unit of the
Ontario Street Church on
Tuesday With 29 members and
three visitors in attendance.
Mrs. Reg Smith conducted the
devotional period assisted by
Mrs. Bert Gibbins, Mrs, Roy
Connell and Mrs. C. Garrow.
There will be a orie day school
for women at Alma College on
August 11. The theme will be
'Design for Christian Living",
A religious day will be held at
Camp Menestung on Wednesday,
June 16, called The Retreat,
Mrs. Win. Flynn and daughter
Rote Marie entertained by
playing piano numbers. Mrs. H.
Johnston will 1)616 charge of the
September meeting and Mrs. J.
Gibson of the February group
will convene the lunch.
A social half hour was spent
