Maras decorate church for Spring wedding
Hensall United Church,
Saturday, April 24, at 3 pin.,
was the setting for a lovely
Spring wedding when Mary
Yvonne Wildfong and Robert
Stuart Farquhar exchanged
marriage vows, before the Rev,
Harold F. Currie, in a double
ring ceremony amid a floral
background of candlelight,
baskets of pink glads, and mauve
and pink mums. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy
Webster of Zurich, and the
groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Stewart Farquhar of Clinton.
Traditional wedding music
was played by Mrs. John
Turkheim, church organist,
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride was lovely in a
floor-length wedding gown of
white silk organza. The bodice,
with empirewaist, was accented
by a high collar and full-length
sleeves, which were caught at the
wrist with cuffs trimmed with
Swiss Guipure lace and a ribbon
flowing through it. The bodice
and the A-line skirt were also
trimmed in the same Swiss
Guipure lace. The lace trimmed,
detachable train flowed from the
waistline to enhance the mood
of this occasion. The
shoulder-length veil flowed from
a crown of rhinestones and
white forget-me-nots. The bride
People who read these
columns regularly, or who know
me personally, know that I do
not play word-games with
human life.
Therefore, it is not lightly
that I express my belief that this
is, indeed, a year of hope such as
we have never seen,
Oh, men have always waged
wars, burned babies, massacred
mothers and fought fathers.
When our Neanderthal ancestors
had their neighbors in for
dinner, they were quite literal
about it.
There have been robberies,
Murders and lies since the
human race began. The Cains
have envied the Abels before the
Homo Sapiens was Sapiens.
But there is a Word which has
invaded history to change it.
-God has, indeed, dwelt among
men, let his Law be known and
let his Name be loved.
Trailing is the wake of God's
mighty acts have been hospitals,
public schools, orphanages,
control of government, human
dignity, wars for liberation, and
movements for peace. Not a
single thing -which deems
humanity to be of worth has
come except by response to the
invasion of humaness which God
has accomplished through his
'Called Ones.
The May meeting of
Holmesville U.C.W. was in the
charge of Mrs, Harry Cudmore
and her group. •
"Our Responsibility In
Change" was the theme of the
meeting which began with the
reading of The Old Sun Dial, by
Mrs, Harry Cudmore, Mrs. W.
Bender led in prayer.
Mrs. N. Heard read the
eleventh Psalm. Meditation was
read by Mrs. C. Tebbutt.
A skit, presenting changes in
worship was given by Mrs. A.
Mowatt, Mrs. C. Tebbutt and
Mrs, W. Bender.
Mrs. Lloyd Bond, read parts
of a report by Dr. Legge on the
Latin Americas,
Roll call was answered with a
verse containing the word
"change".
Mrs, 11. Cudmore gave the
study on Nicaragua.
During business it was
decided that prices for the June
supper would remain the same as
last year. The ladies will cater
for a wedding reception in
November.

embroidered flowered trim.
Along with the gowns, the

picture hats, They carried

at the post-communion. Mr.
Riley led the congregation in
chanting at the gospel
acclamation and the gradual.
Prior to the concluding rite,
Clifford Parker, president of the
Parish Council, made a
presentation• to Father Sharp on
behalf of the parishioners.
About 350 persons attended a
reception held in the Parish hall
following the Mass, and tendered
by St. Joseph's Council of the
Catholic Women's League.
A dinner was held later for
the family, relatives and close
friends in the Clinton
Community Centre.
Father Sharp received his
elementary schooling at the
Clinton Public School and
graduated from the Clinton and
District Collegiate Institute in
1961. He attended St. Peter's
Seminary in London and
received his Bachelor of Arts
degree from the University of
Western Ontario in 1968. He
received his Bachelor of Sacred
Theology from St. Peter's
Seminary earlier this year.
After a two week vacation,
Father Sharp will assume duties
at Our Lady of Quadalope Parish
in Windsor.
Father Sharp also conducted a
Mass at Blyth at St. Michael's
Church on May 10.
Following the Mass there was
a reception and he was presented
with a gift by William E.
Hallahan.
Concepts of mercy, pity,
rights for women, compassion
for the helpless, and limits on
power are the concepts which
have been brought into flesh by
those whose bodies became the
temples of a Spirit not innate in
the human neurological system.
(That's a fancy way of saying by
Revelation, not by man's
creation, has come the Word
which changes History into
His•Storyl)
The evil in the world only
proves the need for the Church.
If Man could be so greedy for
gold, so limited to lust, so
frantically fearful, or so
relentlessly revengeful, and not
fill society with evil, then there
would be no reason to believe
righteousness is God's judgement
and grace. bur very failures, and
the pain they bring, testify to
our need of a Savior,
It IS the Church, alone, which
proclaims: "Unto you a Savior is
born". It is not that the
"Church" as a human structure
is devoid of human foibles. But
it is the very fact that such a
structure, composed of so many
human foibles, possesses such a
Word about History, that is the
proclamation of Hope.
