The polarization of the Black
Community in the U.S. may be a
blessing in disguise, The liberal
whites can sure use some help
and the liberal blacks are going
to need it.
The Black separatists have
developed strong epithets for
their black brothers who are
willing to utterly forsake white
relationships. Some extremist
black groups not only call for
separation but outright hate of
"white devils", And they are
equally* venomous' against blackg'
who are not going to sell their
psyches down the sewer of
bigotry -- which is the very same
sewer down which the white
bigots flushed their own souls
long ago.
Oh, the blacks have long
known what it meant to face
hostile whites. And some whites
have known what it meant to
face hostile blacks.
It is a phenomenon of our
day that in America the white
bigots speak of sending the
blacks "back where they came
from". (Relax. Ain't nobody
goin' nowhere.)
Now-a-days, the blacks who
want integration are being
confronted by resistance and
bitterness front the blacks who
want to hate all whites. And,
now the blacks realize what it
means for a man to face even

who are NOT his own race,
You see, the whites have
known that hatred for a long
time.
Elifah Pierce Lovejoy, an
abolitionist, was shot down by
fellow whites for opposing
slavery in behalf of blacks. Mr.
P.D. East, editor of The Petal

Alabama, was broken in health
and finances, hounded out of
Mississippi - his own race
because of his stand for blacks.
John Brown was driven to
violent resistance against the
violence being perpetrated on
blacks in his day. Hazel B. Smith

one more who faced hatred and
death by resisting her own race

HARVEY ADAM STEVVART
Harvey Adam Stewart of
London and formerly of Stanley
Township, died April 30, 1971
'in London. He was 71 years of
age,
Mr. Stewart was born in
1899, the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Fenwick Stewart, of
Stanley Township, He grew up
on the farm of his father and
grandfather and always retained
a deep and abiding affection for
the Clinton area and the people
with whom he grew up. He was
the oldest of four children, and
is survived by Ken, (Brucefield),
Cliff, (Clinton), and Mrs. Fred
(Mary) Smith, of Toronto.
He went to S.S. No. 1,
Stanley, and received his first six
grades from George Baird, "the
master". When "the master"
retired in 1910, Harvey read the
address at the front of the class
and Anne (Stewart) Noonan
presented him with an umbrella.
He attended Clinton Collegiate
from 1913-1919. For the next
four years he worked with
relatives in both Saskatchewan
and Alberta and absorbed the
atmosphere of the pioneer west.
He loved to tell about the
rough and ready harvest times.
He was proud of the fact that he
Could feed a 48" mill better than
any one else and he once
stooked 40 acres of wheat in
two days. In all farm work, he
was extremely fast and neat.
In 1923, he decided upon a
university course and was
enrolled at Queen'S University at
Kingston 1923-26, graduating
with a B.A. He worked at Good
Year Rubber from 1926-30 in

School teacher. He was hired to
teach at Sir Main 'Beck
Collegiate as the one and only
boys' physical education
teacher, and he remained at the
school till retirement in 1965.
As a teacher and coach, he
became a legend in London's
east end. He was a good
sportsman and had the ability to
coach and generate awe and
enthusiasm in those he taught.
He was extremely severe and
strict in class, yet fair, and the
students always knew that he
liked them. He had three
children: Nancy (now Mrs.
Robert Elgie, of Toronto), Ken
(of Scarborough) and Mary (of
Evanston, Ill,). He saw to it that
all of his children received a
university education at Queen's
University.
In his later years, he taught
geography. For nearly all his 40
years in London, he was a
member of First St. Andrews
United Church. He served as an
elder for most of this period and
was very active in church affairs.
When he retired in 1965, he was
asked to become
Secretary-Treasurer of
W.O.S.S.A. because of his
detailed knowledge of high
school sports. He also was
involved in the Queen's Capital
Program for the London area, at
the time of his death. He was
extremely zealous and
meticulous and it was
acknowledged by Mr. Peter
Beach of O.F.S.A.A., that
Harvey Stewart had turned his
district into one of the more
effidiently-run in the province.
A service was held for
London residents, Mon., May 3
at 7 p.m. in First. St. Andrews
Church. It was filled right to the
back with relatives, friends and
former students. He was carried
out by former students that he
