The Twins gave the Orioles a
fight in the bottom of the sixth
when they opened up the inning
with back-to-back singles scoring
two runs. Then Mark Nicholson
gave up three walks to load the
bases. He struck out the next
two batters to retire the side and
earn a 6 to 4 victory.
The game's two pitchers,
Mark Nicholson for the Orioles,
and Doug Riehl of the Twins
were exceptionally sharp. Ea ch
allokved only three hits.
Nicholson brought home two
runs in the first with his first
homerun of the year. In the
third Riehl struck out two
batters, Tom Colquhoun and
Mark Nicholson but catcher,
Don Petersen, couldn't hold
onto the third strike ball. Both
runners scored before the inning
was over.

runs in the third on walks by
Safety tips
The Ontario Safety League
quotes figures showing the size
of some of the tasks carried out
by the Ontario Department of
Transport.
There are 400,000 new
vehicles each year in Ontario,
and 200,000 new potential
drivers. Examinations are given
at 64 permanent driver exam
centres, but examiners also
travel out to 100 smaller centres
periodically to test licence
applicants.
Every year more than half a
million changes of address have
to be recorded. Changes of name
by marriage total 50,000 yearly.
Every year some 5,000
drivers have their licences
suspended under the points
system. Iii addition, there are
40,000 suspensions for other
causes. About 10,000 cases are
reviewed each year for medical
reasons.

One team in each division
remains unbeaten heading into
the third week of action in the
Clinton Minor Basketball
League.
Ryan's Raiders kept their
winning record intact in the
Wednesday night division thanks
to a balanced attack and a tight
defence.
They stayed right on top of
the Nets to gain a 24-2 victory
with fine positiqnal play. Tim
Jewson and Dean B,yan headed
the scoring with six points each
but nearly everyone had a share.
Geoff Gibb, Steve Gibbings and
Neil Colquhoun each had four
points.
Merlin White scored the only
basked for the Nets.
In the other Wednesday
division game Herman's Heroes
eeked out an 11-9 win over
Barry's Basketeers. Steve Cook
led the way with four points
while Dave Hanley added three,
getting the only point the team
scored from the foul line despite
the fact the Basketeers picked
up seven fouls.
Kevin Dutot and Pete Walden
scored two points each.
Kim Hodgins scored four
points and Gerald Cantelon
scored the other five for the
Basketeers. Both teams now
have one win and one loss.
THURSDAY DIVISION
A tight defence and the
sensational shooting of Gord
Gilfillan gave the Crying Charlies
their second win in two weeks of
action in the Thursday division
with a 31.11 win over team 8. '
Gilfillan stole passes from the
opposition, grabbed rebounds
and took passes from his
ball-hawking teammates and
sank just about everything he
threw at the hoop in the first
half to lead his team to a 17-5
halftime scord.
His teammates continued
their fine defensive play in the
second half and he benefited
again, especially on some fine
passing from Paul Middleton, to
run his total to 24 points for the
game. Robert Harkes scored four
points 'and ,,,Middletoq scored
too. Although he was unable to
score a basket, Jamie
Thompson's fine defensive play
contributed a great deal to the
victory.
Greg Butler's deadly eye from
long range gave Team 8 nine of
their points with David
Archibald scoring the only other
basket.
Bill Irwin made use of his fine
jump-shooting ability to rack up
14 points and lead Team 6 to a
32.7 win over the Born Losers.
The addition of lanky Brian
White at centre helped the team
even its average after the loss it
sustained lask week with White
missing.
White scored eight points and
his height gave the team good
rebounding and the
psychological edge. Peter
Nexbitt scored four points and
Jamis Scott, Robin McAdam and
Greg Holmes scored five points
for the Born Lossers and Doug
Riehl scored two.
The teams reach the half-way
mark in the schedule this week
leading up to the championship
tournament at the end of the
schedule. Team standing do not
really matter since all teams will
be included in the tournament.
