You may come across furniture which appears to be in good condition except for layers of accumulated dirt. If the basic finish is still good, these pieces can be restored very easily, First, wash off as much surface dirt as possible with a mild detergent and warm water, Then, remove the remaining layers of dirt and grime with turpentine or paint thinner, applied freely and rubbed with a cloth, This will dissolve old oil and wag. When the surface is clean, wipe it dry and apply an oil-based furniture polish. This Method, however, is only successful when the basic finish 15 in good condition. Much of the old furniture you are likely to find in attics or secorid4land stores will require a complete refinishing treatment before it Will be ready for use, 20.
