reported by the Ontario Safety
League.
A seat-switch control that
automatically activates a
vehicle's brakes if the driver is
thrown or falls from his seat has
been installed in 400 buses in
Florida. The switch was
developed to stop "runaway"
buses and trucks following an
accident, jolt or other mishap
that removes the driver from his
seat.
GE has developed an
automotive lighting lens material
called Lexan L.S. that it says is
virtually unbreakable and highly
heat resistant.
Saab has introduced a
headlight washer and wiper
system as standard equipment
on all its 1971 cars sold in
Europe. But the system was
designed for use on rectangular
headlights, and cannot be used
on the round, sealed-bearh lights
used in the U.S. and Canada.

Prevent
The time to prevent a skid is

prevent a skid is usually to avoid
extremes — of speed,
acceleration and braking. When
traction is poor, drive more
slowly and treat both gas pedal
and brake pedal more gently, the
Ontario Safety League counsels.
Most drivers know how to
correct a rear wheel skid — turn

direction the rear Wheels are
sliding. But not enough realize
that a corrected skid usually
develops into another skid in the
other direction, The second
"pendulum" skid is likely to be
less severe than the first; but it
can still be dangerous, especially
if the driver isn't experienced
enough to expect it,
