I heard of a tale that is hard to believe, Of a stray dog that's kept by the wife of the reeve. How the poor little tike broke her tether one day, Trailing long rope behind, made a clean getaway. The Oddleifson household kept close watch each day; Even though she had been someone's unwanted stray They feared that the rope would get caught in a tree, And the poor thing would starve when it couldn't get free. A search organized by the "Rangers," worked hard. They scoured the countryside, woodlot and.yard But they failed to come up with the long absent pup And as day followed day, everybody gave up. On the twenty-sixth day she showed up at the door. She was all skin and bones, not an ounce of flesh more. With a staggering gait she crept into the house And lay in a corner as quiet as a mouse. By diligent search, someone found where she'd been In a little used barn was the evidence seen Of the still buckled collar, with rope still held fast. She had lost enough weight and had slipped free at cast. You can see by the picture, she's coming back strong With the care that she's getting it shouldn't take long She's a lucky young pooch, for she could have been dead But she's back in the home where she's loved and she's fed. _Firemen have banquet Thirty-six attended and once Community Centre on Friday.
