Clinton News-Record, 1971-04-29, Page 2Separateboar d begins negotiations BY WILMA, OKE Trustee Ted Geoffrey of Zurich, chairman of the personnel and salary negotiating committee, reported at a. Meeting of the Huron.-Perth County Roman Catholic Separate -School Board in Seaforth on Monday that his committee will meet with the Teachers' negotiating committee for the first time on Wednesday, The teachers' committee 'is comprised of Sister Shirley Delisle and Patrick Monaghan, both of Stratford, and Mrs. Bernadette Perron of Zurich. The subject of Financing will be under discussion at a school board conference to be held in Toronto on May 31 to June 1, The conference will be sponsored by the Department of Educational Administration, the Ontario Institute for Studies and- Education and the Ontario School Trustees Council. Named to attend from Huron-Perth were John Vintar, Superintendent of Education; Jack Lane, Business Administrator; and Trustee Michael Connolly of Nippon, chairman of the finance committee. . The personnel and salary negotiating committee was-given authority to negotiate and finalize the salary settlement with the custodian's committee, subject to final approval of the board. The custodian's committee is comprised of Harry flak, Seaforth;, Lee Regier, Zurich; and Mrs, Gwen O'Rourke, St. Colunibari., Mr, Vintar outlined the need for additional special education teachers for the two counties to assist pupils with learning disabilities. Because of the distance between schools and sparsity of population, Mr. Vintar reported it appears desirable to employ itinerant remedial teachers who can assist pupils in several schools, To date there are 285 cases who have been examined and others are currently being tested. The present staff includes one special edueation consultant, one remedial special class teacher and one itinerant remedial teacher, The board endorsed the Markham. Petition that legislation be passed that in Any speed zone all school bus drivers - turn on their flashing .signats when loading or unloading school bus passengers .and that. all drivers of motor vehicles overtaking the bus from behind or approaching from in front he required to stop. Current legislation is insufficient to ensure the safety of children, having to cross busy roadways where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or under. At the present time it is only in speed 'zones exceeding 35 miles that all schod bus drivers are required to turn on their flashing signals when loading or unloading school bus passengers and that all drivers of motor vehicles overtaking the bus from behind or approaching from in front be required to stop. Three custodians will be retiring at the end. of June, two in. Stratford schools and one in St. Marys. These vacancies are to be advertised, with duties to commence in June. A determined robin has been trying to build a nest on the various ledges and no amount of removal of materials could stop her. In desperation, small blocks of wood were placed on the various ledges and these seem to have accomplished their purpose. We like robins, but not on porches. Hutchings and (Phyllis) Heard.
