The long winter of hockey is slowly coming to a finish for Clinton
fans. After being knocked out of the WOAA playoffs the Pee Wees
and Midgets came back with some real fan pleasing hockey in the
Zone playoffs.
The Lions Midgets became the first winners of the Anstett
Jewellers Trophy for the Midget "A" series. The top four clubs in
each category played for the A trophies while the bottom four in the
standings battled for the B championship. Mitchell won the Novice
A, Huron Paik the Novice B. Zurich the Bantam A, Clinton the
Midget A. Each town Zone 1 put up a trophy and John Anstett of
Anstett Jewellers kindly donated a trophy from Clinton.
For you people who have watchii4,1th poWer ',house, of*our zone,
the Zurich Bantams, they are playing in Zurich Saturday 6 o'clock
against Oakwood in the first game of a three out of five for the
Ontario Championship. Zurich won this award last year and are
hoping to be repeaters this year.
Don't forget to listen for the upcoming games between the
Clinton Ponies and Hensall or Goderich. The home games in the two
game total goal series will not be able to be played in Clinton as the
arena must have the ice out in preparation for the Legions' Camping
Show April 17 and 18.
If any boys between 9 and 17 are interested in attending the
Hockey school at Huron Park I have several application forms and
the people at Huron Park inform me a bus will be used to transport
the boys back and forth this year.

Midgets get Austen trophy for zone championship
the Bend goalie. The next 16
minutes had everyone hollering
as both clubs went all out for
the winner. Brian Millar's goal
output was not high during the
season, but in the last two
playoff games he scored what
proved to be the winners. Just
seconds before his goal, Millar
missed the open net, but the
puck bounced back to Neil
Colquhoun and his pass put
Millar, in front of the net for the
winner.
The championship games will
be played either in Goderich or
Seaforth for Clinton's home
game. ,

Jinx meet
BY JANE SYMONS
We had our second meeting
on March 24 and Mrs. Nelson
gave a demonstration. It was
about the division of dahlias.
Mrs. Nelson showed us that
there are three different kinds of
dahlia, the ball, the pom-pom
and the single: These are the
main three but there are more.
She showed us some slides of
flower gardens, winter carnival,
etc.
We are going to have a special
competition for our
horticultural group- For this we
had to grow plants from a slip.
The meeting closed and we were
served refreshments.
four in Clinton and three in
Mitchell.
Crawford won the scoring
championship in Midget
competition this year and several
of his playoff goals were real
beauties,
Centre of the "kid" line, Mike
Anstett, put in five on Sunday
and a single goal in Mitchell.
This line of Brian Kennedy and
John Vanloo and sometimes Jim
Cameron will be back in Midget
action next year.
Brian Kennedy put in three
goals and assisted on six others.
Jim Cameron notched two in
Sunday's game.
The two Bantams brought up
to the Midgets, Randy Millar
with four goals and Rick
Cameron with one goal, showed
they will be a big addition to the
Midgets next year.
Danny Colquhoun scored in
Monday's game.
Only seven penalties were
called in Clinton and 14 in
Mitchell, with Clinton picking
up three and four in the two
games.
The shutout for the
combination of Brad Turner and
Robert Andrews was reported
Sunday with 27 seconds left.
Most drivers know that
batteries lose power in cold
weather, but the scale of the loss
is not generally realised. A
battery which has 100% of its
efficiency at 80 degrees, delivers
only 60% power at the freezing
point. At zero it has shrunk to
46% power, and at 20 below it is
down to only 30% power. The
Ontario Safety League points
out that in addition to the loss
of efficiency, the battery has a
heavier load to handle when oil
is thickened by the cold.
