The evening began with the eight year old Wee Wees downing Blyth 6-0, Ian Fleming and John O'Bright scored three apiece. David Clifford picked up three assists, Jeff Ball, although not too busy in. the nets, made several great saves late in the third period, The Pee Wee game was a lopsided affair as the Bruins had built up a 4-2 lead in game one of the total point series then put in eight more to easily win the round 12-4. Paul Priestap with 5, Brian Lobb 2, and Wayne Tebbutt were the team scorers. Kin president Don Hall presented the Lorne Brown Motors Ltd. trophy to the Bruins' captain David Counter and gave each boy a crest. Coach of the club was Rick Cameron, goalie, Tim Bird, Dave Archibald, David Counter, Paul Priestap, Brian Lobb, Frank Flynn, John Ball, Terry Gardner, John Haak, Steve Steep, Allan Sauder and Wayne Tebbutt. The final for the night was a thriller between John Jordan's Red Wings and Bob MacDonald's Rangers. Jordan 'ss Red Wings won the game on Brian Trewartha's third goal of the game with only 1:21 left. The game began 3-3 then the Wings went ahead 7-4 on goals by Larry Riehl, 2, .Brian Trewartha, 2, Little Wayne "Peanuts" Ducharme scored for the Rangers and his persistent play helped to keep the Rangers in the game. Craig Millar scored on a breakaway late in the second period then set up Dueharme for the Rangers sixth goal. With six minutes left, Ducharme broke in alone on a breakaway only to be stopped by goalie Dave Brodie, Paul Taylor trailing on the play banged in the rebound for the tying goal. With only seconds left in the game, Wayne Ducharme gave it one more try to tie the game again, but Brodie blocked the shot. Both goalies Dave Brodie and Rick Taylor were superb in the nets. Frank Cook presented the Hotel Clinton trophy to the Red Wings captain Steve Campbell. The team is made up of coach, John Jordan; goalie, Dave Brodie; Randy Garrow, Steve Campbell, Larry Riehl, Andy Jamieson, Brian Trewartha, Robert Knights, Joe McMahon, Jamie Craig and Dean MacDonald. For their efforts in the game Larry Riehl, Wayne Ducharme and Randy Garrow were awarded pens donated by Bill Riehl of Riehl Advertising. For those of us who have received the best of hospitality and the use of the facilities, the Base arena is going to be missed. For the final night a big evening of hockey has been planned for Wednesday, March 31, starting at 6:30 with a Wee Wee game between Clinton and Adastral Park, Then at 7:30 p.m. the Clinton Old Timers meet the Over 40 group from the Base. All proceeds for the evening will be given to the Huron County Children's Aid Society. For 25 years the Base has been a big part of our community and every hockey fan from town should be out for the big game. In Clinton's lineup will be ex-greats — Dan "Wrist-Shot" Colquhoun, Gus "The Blind Ref" Beussey, Ken "The Old Smoothy" Doig, Bill "The Ageless One" Counter, Doug "Flashy" Andrews, Ken "The Young One" Clynick, "Sugar" Meriam and maybe Harry "Coonie" McEwan can be talked out of retirement. These fellows may be passed their prime hockey playing time, but they will put on a great display of puck control and passing combinations. I understand several were still anxious to play and turned out last Saturday but found out that the arena was closed, The Kinsmen Minor Hockey program finished last Friday night. In the IOOF and Rebekahs' league Dum-Dum's finished on top with 108 points followed by Ups and Downs, 104; Bill's Unknowns, 96; Down-A-Lanes, 78; Generation Gap, 77; Lucky Five, 70; Don's Dynamos, 58 and Bryan's Belles, 53. In the Bayfield Bluewater League, Suckers finished with 118 points followed by Crabs with 109; Sharks, 107 and Minnows, 87. Jeannette Huffman had the high single of 303 while Dee Wallace had,,,the higiscaverage of yr 262 and higtrAitpie-'6f697:' Jan Koene had the high men's single of 244, average of 214 and triple of 645, TUCKERSMITH MIXED The Tuckersmith bowlers bowled twice again last week to catch up for nights missed during the storms. Betty Dalrymple had the hidden score. Jo-Ann Aldwinkle led the ladies on their regular night with a 238 single and 655 triple, Tony Van Den Dool led the men with a 326 single and 686 triple. B. Nichol had the high single of 409 and R. Newell had a 400, PEE WEES The Kinsmen Pee Wees meet Qrancl, Bend ,this weekend, in a do or die situation. In the round," robin with the Bend and Goderich, Grand Bend and Goderich have two wins each with the Bend having one more game to play. If Clinton wins then the series will be tied up and Clinton and Grand Bend will play a home and home series while Goderich will meet Hensall. If Grand Bend wins they then meet Hensel' for the zone finals. BANTAMS Seaforth eliminated the Fish and Garners last Thursday night with their 8-5 victory. Although Clinton bad the offensive chances, they played their poorest defensive game of the year. Seaforth went ahead 3-0 before Randy Millar scored two quick ones in the second period. Rick Cameron's goal at 19;25 closed the score to 4-3 for Seaforth, At 4:20 of the third, Clinton's Gerald Cantelon tied the score 4-4. This goal was Cantelon's first goal as an all-star in Pee Wee and Bantam action. 10 seconds later Seaforth scored again, then put in three more to Clinton's One by Rick Cameron. Seaforth now meets Zurich for the zone championship. MIDGETS Goderich outscored Clinton 2-1 in the third period last Sunday to earn a 3-3 tie in the first game of the home and home series. Bill Crawford opened' the scoring on a neat play set up by, Danny Colquhoun and Randy Foul.' Minutes.'" later Goderich's Sam Meriam let loose a wicked slap shot past Swanky Andrews to tie the game. The only goal in the second period was Randy Millar's tip-in shot at 2:53. Jim Cameron started the play at the blueline by passing over to Crawford, his shot was deflected up into the top corner by Millar. Goderich's Bruce Bowman was allowed to roam in unchecked for Goderich's equalizer at 9:26 of the third. At BY JOLANDE AMSI NG The French students of C,H.S.S. had a unique opportunity to study university procedures last Wednesday, at the University of Western Ontario. These Grade 12 and 13 students went to see how the original "French 20" program was set up at C.W.O. The huge auditoriums where a large group of students had French lectures were promised. Small group seminars and discussions usually followed, it was said. All this information was given at a meeting of the senior French students with one of the professors earlier this month. The trip to U.W.O. was to let the students inspect the program of French studies at close quarters. Debbie and Ruth Ann scored early goals and captain Sandra Graham scored on a rebound in the third for the final goal. The girls return to Lambeth this Saturday afternoon for the return match. Ruth Ann Neilans must have heard about her father's playing several years ago for the Colts. She and a girl from Lambeth tangled late in the third and Ruth Ann landed a sharp right to clearly come out the best in the tussle. This Friday night the girls will tackle a club from Fanshawe College at 7:30. Come out and see the girls in their new uniforms. Beavers win Seaforth : Beavers whipped Port Elgin Stinocos, 10-5/sin' Seaforth on Friday to win the best of seven OHA Intermediate group C semi-finals four games to one with one tie. The Beavers now tackle Kincardine Bulldogs. On Sunday, in Kincardine Bulldogs won the first game of the series 8-4 with the Beavers missing several players. Game two of the _series was Tuesday in Seaforth with the next game Thursday in Kincardine and another Saturday in Seaforth. This game, too, had been a close affair. Clinton took the lead on Randy Millar's first period goal but Goderich tied it up. Then John VanLoo gave the home team the lead again only to have Goderich come back again before the end of the period. The second period also ended in a tie with Mike Anstett scoring for Clinton. Then Cameron let go a hard slapshot which hit the Goderich goaltender on the shoulder and went into the net. The Clinton team will now meet Mitchell in the next series, probably to begin on the weekend. 15:47 Clinton went ahead again when Randy Millar pulled. Goderich's goalie out for second of The CaMeron passed over to Crawford who, in turn, hit Millar with a rink-wide pass. The team almost lost the services of left winger Danny Colquhoun after he was struck in the face by a slap shot in Thursday night's practise. He was able to play with the use of Ken Bell's goalie mask.
